I'm a beginner so Krita is good for now, but once I'm an /int/ or /adv/ I expect to be using CSP only.
As for Android, the best programs seem to be CSP, Ibis Paint, and Medibang. I use CSP.

I'll be the first to admit that trying to mimick Kotoyama's heavily stylized artstyle as a complete begginer is kinda retarded, but I love their art and it's fun to try and do while I'm figuring out some of my first poses. From what I understand, most artists don't draw all those laces and clothe details by hand but use pattern brushes. They're quite popular in CSP asset store.
>Good job, anon,
Thanks.
>but the hip box isn't being used at all.
You think so? I drew it to keep in mind the orientation of the pelvis, and I think I got the horizontal tilt right, though maybe not vertical tilt.

About the hip box, if you're comfortable using it, find it useful, and understand the abstraction, just keep using it.

>>8044939
Thanks. The longer you keep drawing, the more you're going to notice what's important in your drawing. Try reading gesture drawing for animators from time to time. It's not a linear book, it's a collection of notes from Walt Stanchfield's Disney lectures incredibly insightful.

I think the proportions work, and the face is nice, but what throws it off is the lack of weight. Where is all her weight resting? On her left leg. So everything should feel balanced around there; otherwise, the figure will give the sense of falling backward. quick example.

I've been learning how to draw for a few months but i have no actual structure on how to actually learn. I've been doing nothing but drawing shapes, various head methods or styles and copying random things off those twitter accounts that post random "how to" images.
Like, i want to draw characters but where do i even begin? Drawing separate body parts? Maybe skeletal parts of them first? Gesture maybe?? Do i just stick to the heads? Where do i even get the resources for the body parts or faces?
This is sooo overwhelming. Too many resources up on video courses and books on the IC torrent
Any recommendations?

I want to draw beautiful works of art, which includes not only characters but also scenery such as nature and architecture and fashion.
My plan is
>Gesture
>Body Anatomy
>Face
>Basic Perspective
>Shading and Lighting
>Coloring
>Rendering
>Fashion
>Nature (environments, plants, animals)
>Advanced Perspective
>Architecture
>Composition (how all the elements fit together in a single artwork)
Something I have learned so far, though, is that all these things are ABSTRACTIONS. They do NOT exist on their own but work all together at the same time to make a drawing good. You CANNOT separate them or the drawing looks like shit, and that is why you must try to learn them more or less at the same time while improving each part.
If you draw a gesture without anatomy, it looks like shit; if you draw anatomy without gesture, it looks like shit; if you draw color without light and shadow, it looks like shit; if you draw light and shadow without perspective, it looks like shit; and so on.
So my advice is not to worry but focus on each part at a time, with the understanding that it will look like shit no matter what because you haven't still gotten a good grasp of the other parts.
>This is sooo overwhelming. Too many resources up on video courses and books on the IC torrent
>Any recommendations?
Focus on a single work or a couple that deals in depth with each step instead of wandering around from shallow tutorial from shallow tutorial.
I think I already got a good grasp over gesture, so I'll try to up my level by deepening my anatomy with "Anatomy for Sculptors" by Uldis Zarins.

300x300 is the size of each image in the collage. You can make it for example 1920x1080.
10+10 is the spacing between images. You can make it 0+0.
tile 3x is the size of the grid. You can make it 2x for four images.

À problem with simplicity and planning. Analyze the choices the artist made and mimic those choices in your own ways. You’re drawing too many sharp shapes, you lack value simplification, and your anatomy is poorly executed. Get more familiar with your subject while doing these studies. Best of luck.

Things to improve would be hue variation and texture. These two things can give a lot of movement to your painting without being too in your face. One important concept you should familiarize yourself with is perceptual value, because hue alters how dark you perceive a value. For example, your darkest yellow will be lighter than your darkest blue, and vice versa.

>>8045272
>is digital painting really transferable to physical?
Yes, but also all your bad habits are transferred. For example, mixing on the canvas instead of mixing on a tray and then painting with the mixed color.
Soft pastel, for me, is the medium that feels the most like digital. Gouache would be second. Soft pastel teaches good technique: no smudging, no mixing, and no overworking the paper fibers.
For example, I can paint a lemon in both traditional and digital almost the same way, except the traditional version is going to be richer in color.

This isn’t bad. There are plenty of simple things you can do to improve, in order of importance:
1. Draw bigger: Aim for 1 figure per page.
2. Work on your pencil control: Your lines feel too harsh. Start really softly, make your marks, and little by little build up the linework.
2.5. Do this exercise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKSbhbZ_-VQ
Do it for at least 2 weeks to let your hand get used to how much force you need to apply. For the gradient exercise, instead of going from lightest to darkest, do it the other way around. Start with the darkest square, making it as dark as you can, then make each following square a little lighter until you reach paper white.
3. Switch to Printer paper
4. Start using a kneaded eraser and learn how to use it.

>>
>>8045495
Reddit is utter shit as a website.
You need karma to post or comment, but you can only get karma by posting or commenting.
You get downvoted, shadowbanned, and permabanned for the stupidest of bullshit and the slightest deviation from other posts or comments. If you post in one subreddit, other subreddits ban you for posting in other subreddits.
Everything is extremely curated towards turboleftism and wokeism and that kind of content gets spammed on every subreddit and on every post.
Shit website in its entirety.
>>
>>8045495
Automod deletes all comments made by new accounts or low karma. Nearly every sub has this feature.
Yes it's fucking retarded. The only thing you can do is wait a week, karma farm on a front page sub, avoid posting anything controversial or right of center, avoid posting in any problematic sub that's sitewide tracked, delete your comments so you're not tagged as a karma farming bot and then you'll be allowed to post regularly on reddit.

95% of new accounts are bots these days so most platforms just assume you are a bot until you prove you're real

I recommend not getting too caught up in the weeds. You're making very complicated shapes from the shadows and lights Vilppu has put down. Look for the largest mass of shadows and light. Squinting can help with this greatly. After you have your shapes down, soften edges where you need to. Apply 1 value at a time, especially at your level. I'd argue you shouldn't bother with value until you can actually put things in place in a clean manner. Definitely work on your heavy handedness if you could, try to approach the subject with a more sensitive touch even when measuring. Avoid hasty mark making or rather mark making without clear intention, it'll just make your drawing look rushed and lacking in thought/consideration.

You got the accuracy working for you close enough. Maybe look into sighting drawing techniques for more ways to see. Ideally, you should be able to see the bounding box of any shape you're drawing and compare how tall it is to the width and vice verse.

It can? All Loomis does is just make a simplified head, it's based on form principles of xyz axes. They are manipulatable.

Should I change my brush to add some softness? I've been using Krita's "pencil-2" hard brush because I like how it can make light gray strokes with low pressure but also dark lean lines with high pressure.
The other Krita brushes weren't to my liking. They go from too thin to too thick, or they always remain full black or too light, and so on.

I did mine with just the hard round brush with pressure opacity. Really all that matters is that you get the result/effect that you want. Different brushes have advantages or makes getting a result easier. If you need a soft edge, find a way in isolation or along a swatch. If you need a dry and soft edge (dry brush), you need a brush that has a crispy stamp and so on.

I did these with pencil-2. Making it bigger gives a little bit of a randomized spacing/scattering on the 2nd shape. 3rd is hatching, you can choose either. Make sure to go along the shape to keep the edges controlled.
