Submit an art teacher then let /ic/ scale their power level.
We scale new and old teachers here.
We scale them based on how well they can teach. That's it.

Hot take:

Uldis Zarins is better than Bridgman.

Now before you're going to yell at me because of my so-called shallow judgement on bridgman's anatomy because they're designed that way to make you remember them more easily.

Well, anatomy for sculptors does the exact same fucking thing but less schizophrenic and more clearly. And it also has references from real life. And the text is less schizophrenic than bridgman. This Anatomy for Sculptors book is what bridgman tried to be.

I wouldn't exactly call it a no draw version. I mean it's actually kind of necessary. Because it's useful to help you filter out some bad teachers and call out on their shit before you even get into their content. After all you wouldn't want to learn from a teacher who makes garbage like this.
>>

Nice bait. All courses are scams and not a single person on this board has gone through Krenz.

Anatomy for Sculptors is a very useful book. It is definitely clearer than Bridgman, although credit must be given to Bridgman for developing and/or elucidating many of the concepts that form the basis of later books including Anatomy for Sculptors.

That said, I would put Bridgman *as a draftsman* up against any current-day art teacher. His figure drawings, although rough, are beautiful in a way that is similar to the sketches of Michelangelo and William Rimmer. They have weight, movement and life to them. I don't think Uldis Zarins is principally a draftsman anyway.
>>
>>8047284
you don't read bridgman for the anatomy, retard, you read him for actually drawing the figure, the anatomy is incidental to that effort

>Bridgman
Not good as a teacher.
>Ernest Norling
Bad teacher. We need to stop recommending Perspective made easy, use a modern book on perspective, PME is retarded and confuses begs!
>Kim Jung Gi
Not good as a teacher.
>Moderndayjames
HORRIBLE as a teacher. You'll learn nothing, and he makes mistakes in his teaching material, some of the stuff he teaches he has a low skill level in or doesnt even understand at all.
>DAB
slightly ok as a teacher, but you can learn what he teaches else where, hes not anything special.
>Proko
ok at teaching anatomy, but he fails everywhere else.
>Loomis
Probably controversial, but I don't think hes good at teaching, and I think people should stop recommending his books. Just learn the loomis head and stay away. I actually wonder if the people who recommend him are trying to sabotage begs. I actually seriously think as a community we should create new recommendations because I feel like some resources at this point are outdated.

Great as a teacher, makes things easy to understand, he's also pretty funny when teaching which is a plus.

I agree with a lot of these.

> Moderndayjames
actually did his overpriced mentorship for a bit he had some good exercises for drawing from imagination but he's bad at teaching animation.

> Bridgman / Loomis
Strongly disagree, I think if you copy their drawings you'll learn a lot. The words are either nonsensical (bridgeman, actually written by his students but whatever) or mostly self-help (loomis)

> Blaise
I think he has good tips and the exercises he picks (especially for animation) are good. Feel like he'd be great in a 1:1 critique setting. He really doesn't teach you how to draw anything so horrible for begs.

>he's bad at teaching animation.
Yeah he really is, it really pisses me off hes going to stunt a bunch of peoples animation skills with his courses. A lot of people who make courses are just predatory scumbags.
In regards to Bridgman, yes I do agree you'll improve if you copy the drawings, I went through his book on hands and the improvement was fucking crazy, I started studying drawing from life but dropped it due to getting busy, but with what little I did, it improved my art like crazy. But it's mostly up to you to draw, because the information offered is basically useless. It's like going to an art class and the teacher doesn't teach you anything, he just makes you draw (which you'll learn from, but having knowledge on the subject helps) Also I just am not really a fan of loomis' figures, I think they look a bit weak, and I think the information he gives isn't really helpful most of the time.

Loomis is the Rippetoe of this board, Fun with a Pencil and Starting Strength have similar issues (other than one sending people to the hospital) but they give beginners a good on-ramp and can add more later on do something else once they had their fill.

>bridgememe
Agreed
>EN
Disagree on the basis that no one agrees on what to replace it with, I do agree that there's better perspective teachers but no one wants to spent 110 hours course with Erik Olsen
>KJG
He had one video that went in depth on head drawings that was phenomenal, he's kind of mediocre in everything else in a teaching sense
>MDJ
Agreed, I do not understand why he has a teaching course for anything other than animations
>DAB
Actually good lessons for line control and an introduction to drawing basic shapes, something begs do need drilled in their heads but for some reason became the defacto "I will never draw anything other than a fucking box/ovals/and lines"
>Proko
Never watched his videos. His review on Bridgememe was spot on
>Loomis
Unironically a good teacher but a product of his time. Free, public domain and is available in literally every library on the planet Loomis is just a bare minimum standard of what you should seek in an art book, not the absolute best.

Art teachers that are actually the best:
Vilppu
Krenze
Hide (aside from his abysmally shit illustration drawings, his high beg tier construction and figure drawings are very easy to follow)
Morpho (aside from the ugly face and head drawings, some of the best body figure drawing available, is extremely easy to follow)
TomFoxDraws
Manga Materials (for resource of body angles)

His info is good, but only because it's 100% repackaged content from established artists and teachers. His art is fine but boring and incredibly sterile because he's one of the "I'm gonna be Kim Jung Gi" zoomers that copies this simulacrum of him with none of the soul or horniness. Just endless drawing of tigers eating ramen or people running from dogs.

Thats the problem with people who sell courses and such, they just regurgitate information someone else made, and thy usually charge way more for for it.
>none of the soul
I dunno man I wouldn't really call kjg soulful either.
>Just endless drawing of tigers eating ramen or people running from dogs.
Spot on. I feel like kjg copycats just draw what they think will impress people or they feel too embarrassed to draw what they really like or they just never refined their own tastes/interests, which kind of leads to these "nothing" drawings. I'd honestly love to see some deviantart tier autist who makes complex kjg type drawings of some obscure bad cartoon but that'll never happen unfortunately.

>Loomis meme

I've been out of this god-forsaken board since 2023 and y'all idiots still post ragebait memes. Loomis is a fucking hack, and his method is retarded.

Anyone knows if you want to learn to draw humans all you need to get started is this:

>BARE FUNDAMENTALS

Brent Eviston's "Art and Science of Drawing"

>FIGURE

Steve Huston and a little bit of Glenn Vilppu to get an idea of gesture but don't lean in too much.

>FACE

Steve Huston once again. The fucking GOAT.

>RENDERING

Anything from Marco Bucci will be good for you.

picrelated is the shit I was doing in like the second year of drawing. If you follow these teachers you'll be alright. You don't need to learn the bones, muscles or whatever autistic shit is peddled here nowadays.
>>
>>8052369

>>
>>8052369
>marco bussy for rendering
nigga
>You don't need to learn the bones, muscles or whatever autistic shit is peddled here nowadays.
ok now you are just trolling
>>
>>8052400
As long as you want to draw decent shit and not pornography (which will become obsolete in 2 years because of AI gen videos), then yes. It is very much enough. Learning a responsible way to sketch and construct is more important than autistically knowing every bone and crevice of the body. Source: I studied it all with Scott Eaton and it was a meme.

What I want to say is: being able to draw basic 3D forms in space, then cylinders and forms, combined with a basic sense of gestural drawing is enough. THAT, if your usecase is to draw from imagination, or do illustrations, or sketch. If your usecase is to copy shit like a braindead retard like Proko, then you don't need any of it just grind the xerox mindset.

>>8052384
Never read his books, I'm way too ADHD for that shit. I just watched "Constructive Figure Drawing" or something like that. Most of his courses are very good. From Glenn I'd only recommend his life action gesture showcases because you can sort of intuit his shoulder movements and dynamic flow-like drawing style. That old boomer isn't too good at teaching shit, he's more of a "draw your own owl" kinda guy
>>
>>8052400
What's so bad about Marco bussy
>>
>>8052369
In two years, that's amazing anon. I still feel Loomis is a good starter, it gets people to draw with form, have basic head proportions, doodle some basic cartoons.
>>
>>8047258
In your opinion, who would be the best to actually learn to draw from imagination?

My problem is that after I see how to do some figure drawing, whenever I try without reference it all falls apart.

>>8052493
I didn't know Steve Huston had a course.
>>
>>8052894
>whenever I try without reference it all falls apart.
you should accept it to some extend
>>
>>8052899
To what extend? I am completely unable. I'd like to improve, somehow.
>>
>>8047625
Loomis is required reading even if his books alone will not teach you how to draw.
>>
>>8050532
good illustrations to copy. He's one of the best at that front lighting
