Inking, character design, paneling / layout, writing, planning, and other discussions are all welcome.Post resources, questions, in-progress pages, breakdowns of other works, etc. If a work is not yours, credit the maker (unless it's fucking obvious like a full page of One Piece or something). Thanks to everyone for making /mmg/ a level-headed and helpful place. Remember, drawing and making comics and manga are difficult endeavors, and we're all in this struggle together.Previous thread: >>8047752Some resources:/asg/, our stylistic sister-thread series for those focused more on illustration >>>/ic/asgBooks:Understanding Comicshttps://e-hentai.org/g/2042453/83e7da6ed0/Making Comicshttps://annas-archive.org/md5/d55168f7579c1e23275d1fc9f0a2255dManga in Theory and Practice: The Craft of Creating Mangahttps://annas-archive.org/md5/2877da11e2f852d220853e9944e6ea49Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwritinghttps://archive.org/details/RobertMcKeeStorypdf/Even a Monkey Can Draw Mangahttps://kupdf.net/download/even-a-monkey-can-draw-manga_58b9ca16e12e89233badd376_pdfThe Shonen Jump Guide to Making Mangahttps://mega.nz/file/i81imLpI#GcheJ9Jjk3lw1RE9nQWgL4RG4wEBNOcRmgA-iaU6WpgVideos:"Manga Senpai/Tokyo Name Tank", "SMAC! >>8054540Starting this thread with a drawing cause saw an anon complain about it at the end of the last one. If this thread aint productive you cant blame me Im working
>>8054545Based anon. Cute girl
Also since I saw another anon talking about supplies and I was also the faggot who posted Mark Crilley vids in the last thread, I wanted to mention that he also has a art supplies vid thats worth checking outhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEBzCr_kNnsMainly because I see how some anons on here get picky about needing to get some special manga/comic book paper and honest to god you dont need to. You just really need something thats durable and can take a beating, otherwise you dont gotta go out of your way to get some Japanese imports. The worst you gotta deal with is having to measure the dimensions that you need to draw on said paper cause on the shelf Bristol aint gonna have book measurements/ratios but after you do it for one or two pages you can just trace that page on top of the Bristol/Cardstock/whatever and get to work. Like I have a 9X12 inch Bristol pad and I only gotta cut around half an inch of it and I get the standard page size for my comic
Can you drop a little beat beat for me
>>8054582Why have you've been using the Nipponese language for this btw? I thought this was a personal comic like the Knight one, you got a publisher for this? Or do you got an actual audience of Japs?
>The issues that you are complaining about only ever arise when you DO decide to print out a physical copy, and if you really care the solution for that would be just splitting the image down the middle and you just shift/shimmy the two images to their corresponding side and just take into account the spine. It's not as simple as just putting things here and there after they are complete. You have to avoid putting valuable things in the spine such as dialogue, or an important panel, which you won't know unless you're sure of the page orientations (this includes planning two page spreads) everything needs to be considered from beginning to end. Which page is on the left, which one is on the right, and so on. Even things like page numbers, otherwise you'll be in big trouble when you do.>>8054553This allergy to buying reams of paper once or twice a year is silly to me. Is it really that much trouble?
>>8054610Let him cook. If he doesn't finish this one, by god that I will make my own take on it. I love those two.
>>8054622Not trying to hate on him, just wanted to know the business/shop side of things as opposed to the constant art/technique talk we get on these threads
>>8054553It’s funny how much shit Mark got from IC and other places back in the day and occasionally now, but looking back at his Brody’s Ghost work he has accomplished way more with his art both professionally and technically than all 3 Australians here combined. Kinda based ngl
>>8054642The guy didn't even do manga inspired stuff to begin with. He was doing indie western stuff, then got yellow fever or something and married a Japanese chick and started drawing manga.
>>8054642Crabs are gonna crab, which sucks cause the reason why I still follow him after all these years cause hes one of the few authors who just fucking tells you how doing this comic shit works. I see these fluff pieces from fucking Viz or Kodansha try to spout out philosophy about how "Its okay to be rough as long as the idea is good" or some hack on Youtube try to sell you a course but Mark just fucking tells you throughout the course of his videos what it actually takes to get published and what the standards are and you can look at his published catalogue for reference on that, and while Im sure he has some dedicated fans he aint even a FAMOUS author. Successful sure but not a big name especially compared to the names that get constantly posted on here, so its kind of a realistic point of reference for me to compare with my works. Like I aint reading his Akiko series cause it aint my cup of tea but the art like pic related is still worth analyzing for me cause I can see that this is the expected quality of a childrens comic, and Brody's Ghost for Teen comics/manga etc. and he has some vid breaking down his stories for reference.Like its so useful to see him in essence create Brody's Ghost in real time cause you see him explaining the thought process for the creation of the series as the story went on through his videos/tutorials. Its easy for even a great author to tell you the grand stories of creating a story after the fact but seeing the shit in real time is really useful and helps me at least understand the struggles as I create my own comic
>>8054553The problem with paper is that you actually have to know the paper before can be really sure that it's good enough for you. And usually good paper is very expensive here. So you can't just easily test the paper and find the best which fits to you.IC manga manuscript is relatively cheap and every professional manga artist uses it so it's normal that it's the go to paper most people want to have.
>>8054642I've been posting on a board with 3 Australians? Who are they?
It's better not to post anythign here. Anything you post will just get taken apart by some retarded smartass who thinks he knows everything better anyway. When you already get criticized for saying that you ordered paper then I don't even want to know what happens when you post your drawings here
>>8054672>I don't even want to know what happens when you post your drawings hereI'll tell you. Most of the time, it just gets ignored. No offense, but you new around here?
>>8054666Dingle, the knight guy making his porn comic in awkward Japanese, and there's like one other anon I'm forgetitng
>>8054676forgetting*Anyways, I agree with the other anon's thoughts on Mark Crilley. He's an oldfag but he's one of the few who actually shows the damn process and explains in plain English, which is very insightful.
>>8054673I am not new here. I just don't like posting my stuff on imageboards because imageboards are full of retards who only use it as an opportunity to put themselves above you. It doesn't matter how good you are.
>>8054678The video which got posted here already starts with nonsense>supplies are 10% at most which mattersComplete bullshit. A shitty paper can easily ruin your whole work. Any decent artist knows this. Supplies DO matter. It just depends on what your standards are. If you have shitty standards then you also can draw on cardboard but if you want to produce professional quality then you also need a good paper.
>>8054676"awkward Japanese">>8054642"he has accomplished way more with his art both professionally and technically than all 3 Australians here combined." The nodraw cunts are fucking passive aggressive tonight. if you got a problem out with it, Jesus Christ.>>8054610I'm doing it in japanese 'cause im gonna try the dingle route. Whats the harm in having a go.
>>8054664Fair but I just wanted to give more options especially for those anons who get anal about materials and needing to mimic the pros.
>>8054685Thanks for the response to the question anon
>>8054686No you just wanted to act like a smartass and put yourself above other people. That's why you can't post on imageboards. Because of people like you. Anythign you post will just get taken apart by people like you. No matter what you post people will find a way to attack you with it.
>>8054659I have a feeling this is mark himself.
>>8054685You could start by redrawing her waist and hips in the top left last panel. The contours look a bit lumpy and weird in my opinion, feels very flat.
>>8054672Yes. That is why the OP is always an actual manga and never something created by people from the thread.
>>8054688>>8054692Fucking Christ can we NOT fill this thread with shit flinging that was like 75% of the last thread
>>8054037>>8054063>>8054071>>8054089>>8054360Why the hate? I think all the comics posted here could be improved with at least some AI assistance.
>>8054692Toriyama wa a retarded autist who couldn't even draw. He just got lucky because his autism appealed to manchildren.
>>8054697Nice backhanded advice dickbag now FUCK OFF the AI shilling was the other 25%
>>8054699This is bait but I'll bite. If this were really true, almost every Shonen mangaka alive would not cite Toriyama's manga with such reverence during their artistic journey. Not to mention the fact that even long after his death, his works in Dragon ball and Chronotrigger and Dragon Quest remains as a relevant cultural icon in the anime industry despite being over 4 decades old at this point. While some of his anatomy or designs you are free to critique, saying that he couldn't draw very well seems hyperbolic. What have you accomplished?
>>8054699pyw
>>8054676>>8054666Theres 2 others but I dont know there names. Theres the one with the beautiful trad art, used to be digital but switched over, follows a young girl. Others the guy who looks like jojo (current not fist of the north star)
>>8054695>defending yourself is shitflinging
>>8054703Where is this from and who is this based lad? This is amazing.
Do you actually write whatever the fuck story you feel like just to satisfy your own personal creative itch or are you constantly second guessing every line to pander to your readers?
>>8054708I almost do the opposite of pandering. When people tell me I shouldn't do something because it doesn't fit into their retarded mainstream taste then I double down on it and do it harder.
>>8054540https://mgmangaaward.mixgreen-inc.com/Go help Shihei Lin to overtake the old and busted Jump."They've had meetings and discussions with foreign creators so they're open to them being on the platform but language and cultural barriers sre still a problem.Weekly and biweekly is the way to go for digital platforms. >>8054719How was the result?
>>8054719That's why you'll never make anything equal to relevancy, anon.Go make a reincarnation villainess story, or exiled revenge, or any other feel-good stories for exhausted wagies to feel better about themselves.
>>8054684You can literally just buy a brick of printer paper and draw on that just fine. You don't need to buy fancy artist paper. It isn't like you're being challenged to draw on napkins or something.
>>8054697SAAAARR DO NOT REEEDEEEMMM SAAAAR
>>8054733>You can literally just buy a brick of printer paper and draw on that just fine.Maybe with a pencil, but gpens rip up printer paper too easily. I don't know what that anon is using but access only to printer paper is what turned me off drawing in analog a long time ago.
I will never make it because I can't buy Japanese manga paper for 500 yen in a store that'd be a 10 minute walk away.I can only buy stuff imported from Japan on amazon with a high price!
>>8054720How much money are we talking about.Give me hot minute, i install a cracked version of ex and i start my cool manga bout a guy.
>>8054724I don't care about relevancy retard. Otherwise I would be drawing retarded shonen shit for manchildren. I draw for myself.
>>8054738>I will never make itthis, it's over, rip
