There are also older examples like Munich, where they restored much of the pre-war architecture right after the war. Overall if we want our cities to become beautiful again we have to keep fighting back against the modernist dogma, which ideologically condemns beauty in architectural design as 'backwards.' It's not cost or convenience which prevents us from building beautiful today, but political will and ideology.
