At the moment the working middle class is getting absolutely shafted. The wealthy have established a system where they can be exempt from taxation, and use their capital to become even richer in practice while staying in debt so they don't officially count as rich. Somebody has to pay for politicians' pensions, boomers' retirement and lazy fuckers' gibs though, so that's all coming from the middle. They're prolonging the collapse by increasing gibs so that the lazy ones stay content, but this just increases tax load on the workers, which makes working less attractive for low wage jobs, meaning more people drop out. We're already in a vicious cycle and those at the top aren't doing anything about it.
