>>
>>214438646
There is no such thing as a free cat in Sweden, unless someone is literally giving it away but that's usually because there is something wrong with it, or you steal a kitten from the street.
If you want to adopt a rescue cat it costs the same, if not more than buying one from a breeder.

There’s three black and white cats who potter around my street and one who looks like >>214438227. They come into my garden a lot to sleep on the furniture or sit on the fences, sometimes I hear them meowing at each other on the fences in the morning. I’ve tried to pet them when they’re sitting in my garden but they all run away when the door opens, might need to start buying treats for them.

I think shorthairs are the most common but there's a bunch of long haired forest cats too, at least up north.
I think these two are some kind of half-breeds of forest cats, but they were born wild so I can't really pinpoint any specific breed.

There's also an orphan white kitten That kept screaming for its mother somewhere in the neighborhood that ended up at our house seeing all the cats here. The kittens don't play with it since they're not litter mates and the mama cat hisses at it. I fed them all today and the mama cat scared the orhpan kitten off.

I'm thinking of adopting him and calling him Jon Snow.

Tabbies, blacks, and tuxedo coated ones are common, calicos and gingers are not.

I remember once coming across with a siamese kitten in a wood close to a farming area. I would love to have brought it with me, they trend to be sociable, but my current cat is middle aged, and behaves like a psycho near to other cats.

Street cats are one of the best ways to determine the quality of a neighborhood and the people living in it
>Cats are skinny, almost exclusively young and very aggressive towards other cats, especially around food or around humans
Probably an industrial or commercial zone rather than a residential one, finding food (either by being fed or finding discarded food in the trash) is rare to the point a cat can't afford to pass the opportunity up or wait for other cats to fill up and leave
>Cats are usually dirty, injured and skittish around humans
Food is obtained through foraging in poorly secured garbage bins, neighborhood is dirty and residents are used to living in this funk
>Cats are usually clean and visibly well fed
Cats are fed by sympathetic residents (typically pensioners) to the point trash (if they can get to it) is a supplementary source rather than a primary one, meaning cats don't have to get too deep into the filth.
This neighborhood is mostly peaceful and occupied by sympathetic people.
>Cats are healthy, friendly and fucking everywhere and an attempt at interaction with one will result in being swarmed by needy cats, all meowing for your attention
Food supplied by residents exceeds cat needs, leading to a population explosion.
The neighborhood is clean, trash is stored in a dedicated, closed area and the neighborhood is generally a high-trust one.
The cutest, friendliest cat gets fed the most which results in evolutionary pressure to create more cute cats.
>Cats are healthy, friendly/indifferent towards humans, age is varied and half-full containers of food and water can be seen next to bushes and in corners out of the way
Same as the above, except the municipal body actively neuters them, this is the top of the cat-scale.
>No cats
One of two options
>Street dogs
municipal body is dysfunctional
>Living next to wilderness
Cat population is controlled by roaming wildlife like Jackals

>>
>>214438227
>he
That's a she. Calico cats are always female.
>>
>>214450511
Almost always, yes — but not 100%.

Here’s why:

Calico coloring (patches of orange, black, and white) comes from genetics. The orange/black coat color gene is located on the X chromosome.

Females have two X chromosomes (XX), so they can carry one allele for orange and one for black, which—combined with white spotting genes—produces the calico pattern.

Males usually have one X and one Y (XY). This means they can normally be either orange or black, but not both.

Rare exceptions:

Sometimes a male cat is born with an extra X chromosome (XXY, a condition similar to Klinefelter syndrome in humans). These males can be calico or tortoiseshell, but they are usually sterile.

Very rarely, a male cat can be calico due to chimerism (two embryos fusing early in development) or somatic mutation, but these cases are exceptional.

So, in short:
Almost all calico cats are female. Male calicos exist, but they are extremely rare (about 1 in 3,000 calicos).

Would you like me to explain why the white patches appear too, or just stick to the male/female genetics?

We don't really have street cats in Poland.
Cats you would see on the streets of Polish cities have owners that just let them out. It's surprisingly common for people to let their spayed pet just whatever the fuck it wants. When I was living in an apartment my ground floor neighbours had a wooden ladder propped against their window so their cat could leave their apartment and come back home whenever it wanted and the bastard usually was sleeping on roofs of dark coloured darks

Only female cats can have that color pattern, and many people believe kittens born to these mothers are better looking than average.
>>
>>214455678
I had a femal cat like that, although not with the colors of that pic, and one of the cat she made was full beige male. Rare color for a cat.
