Number of things are at play here, but the types of Euro-zoomers to have conversations amongst themselves in English are usually cringey nerdy people with a lack of self-awareness...However, as a native English speaker who has grown up in Europe and always has had a preference for American entertainment, I'd say there is just hardly anything for a somewhat nerdier zoomer to consume in these countries. A lot of European countries produce great art (great movies, great literature, art etc..) but I can't think of a single country except the UK (which again is an English speaking country) that produces sort of accessible slop that the youth can enjoy. If you're a Croat and you learn English as a kid, you basically have a whole universe of entertainment and hobbies you can partake in that would be closed off to you. Video games, youtube, tiktok, movies that aren't specifically aired on tv with subtitles, books that might not be translated, tv shows and not to mention the internet in general. Most people here who can only speak Croatian or really struggle with English are usually people with zero interests or hobbies that do nothing besides going outside to have a coffee with friends or whatever.
