Why is russian music so good? More specifically russian war songs so sound great and they have emotion to them, even if you dont understand whats being said, it sounds so good. I think there is something special about the russian language, its soft, delicate and emotional which makes it perfect for singing.

russian is fairly grammatically conservative as far as indo-european languages go (mogged only by sanskrit and lithuanian in that regard) so my guess would be that helps make it more expressive for purposes of singing. not sure about the phonetic side of things however

There is quite a lot of focus on professional musical education in Russia. A lot of music academies, many kids attend additional music classes, hard to find a Russian child who doesn't play some instrument. Even the members of their pop or rock bands often have a degree in music. Also orthodox culture emphasizes the role of music in liturgy and daily life. A lot of Russians, especially women, belong to church choirs and orthodox chorals require a lot of skills and training to be sung properly.

this song perfectly encapsulates what is so good with the russian language in songs, the words sound sweet, delicate like candy and no other language can achieve this.

I see, is there any other culture as musical as the russians? And generally music is a very important aspect of Orthodox Christianity, making beautiful art and trying to bring beauty to this world is a Christian tradition. Plus the language itself is great for singing

This is all unpopular outside Russia because it is not sung in English.

Ukrainians, Yugoslavs

I don't think it really matters. Every language is good enough for it, that's why we have countless amazing music traditions from all over the world, just every nation adjusts its music and rhythm to the sound of their own language.

If we had to measure it objectively then the best languages for singing should be those with the highest vowel-to-consonant ratio, so it would be probably Ugro-Finnic languages, certainly not Slavic ones.

I guess its a subjective thing since music itself is subjective, but slavic languages sound so delicate, sweet and candy-like but melancholic at the same time. It sounds very different and exotic than mongolian,, mongolian is a language with short vowel pronouncations compared ot slavic languages, and the pronouncations in mongolian are tougher sounding
