What was learning English like for non-native speakers?
my mother is an english teacher and i was intrested in learning since i was a kid so it was really easy for me

at school learning mostly concentrated on grammar and learning as much new words as possible. i struggled a lot and english was my least favorite subject alongside maths. then i turned 12 and started using the internet more and started watching youtube videos in english and in just one summer i became good enough that i never needed to study the subject from there onwards. the grammar i learned at school definitely helped but as always actual motivation is the most important thing.

this could be applied to any language, but it had been very hard to collect ample amount of audio learning materials with appropriate difficulty and written scripts until Youtube got the feature of automatic subtitles around 2020.
