Government removed all french and anglo writers from the high school world literature curriculum and replaced them with russian ones.
>>
English literature is trash and if you are not reading in french don't bother
>>
>>214590986
oh the crime oh the punishment
>>
>>214591384
Anglo-Norman literature is kino.

>>214591503
Raskolnikov was the original incel. I liked crime and punishment more than The Brothers Karamazov. Haven’t read Dostoyevsky other works though
>>
>>214590986
Source? Or maybe there isn't any English language article about this yet since the thing is recent.
Because it would be interesting, here we had these journalist complaining in the first months of the invasion of Ukraine how in some Italian university allegedly, someone had the idea to remove Russian authors, which may or may not have happened, and that was for them proof "russophobia" was sweeping the continent.
>>
>>214591875
It didn't happen but OP posted it because it just sounds believable with the current political climate in Hungary
>>
>>214591774
I liked Alyosha Karamazov
The house of the dead was cool and in Demons he talks about the suicide dilemma a lot but at the end of the day I see myself in his Idiot
The problem with russian authors is that they wrote a lot and it takes a long time to finish reading them
>>
>>214591941
The Grand Inquisitor was pure fedora-tipping atheist kino.

I don’t know any other Russian authors aside from him
>>
if they were to introduce someone like Tolstoy or Dostoevsky in schools it'd be hell for the students because you wouldn't be able to finish the book in time even if they wanted to, who reads the books required for school anyway? lol
>>
>>214590986
Russian literature is too complicated for high school students though, they won't get anything out of it. Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky are the sort of novelists better read when you're 30+ and a bit more cynical about the world.
>>
>>214592102
there are too many of them, you can look into it if you have the time

>Russian literature is too complicated for high school students though, they won't get anything out of it.
It could be true 30 years ago before incelism became mainstream but actually nowadays it's so common so half of the students will easily relate to that.

In Burger high school, we typically read Charles Dickens and Shakespeare
>>
>>214592243
What about Romanian literature? Any cool recommendations?
>>
>>214592310
ugh I don't even know if romanian authors were translated into english but everyone makes waves about Cioran, you probably already know him
>>
>>214590986
Read:
>War and Peace(Tolstoy)
>The Stranger(camus)
>Point Counterpoint(Huxley)
and come back to me

This
The concept of human misery in literature used to be revolutionary in the west. No western writers were writing about topics like that because it was seen as pointless to focus on the negative aspects of life. Nowadays the average western life is so miserable that Dostoyevsky is going to seem like trite slice of life to modern readers.
It's the same reason why fantasy, science fiction, and historical fiction dominate the market right now. Nobody but masochists and boomers who've managed to cling to their idyllic worldview wants to read stories set in our shitty modern world, they want to be transported somewhere else.
>>
>>214592647
wait until they discover Sade and his Justine
>>
>>214591875
didn't happen
a single schizo professor of some uni had the idea, posted his schizo rant on social networks and news inflated the thing
>>
>>214592724
wait until they watch Hokuto no ken first time
>>
>>214591384
Recs for french then?
The only french book I found particularly interesting was pansees. When I think of non english "world literature" my mind goes to more german, russian, and italian authors then french.
>>
why can't we just ask students to read Schopenhauer, make them conclude that nothing matters and let them quit the school?

Les Misérables
Le mort d’Arthur
Père Goriot
Anything from La comédie humaine
La belle et la bête
Les lettres persanes
>>
>>214592813
the french are morbidly obscene lol go for camus, bataille, wittkop and sade nobody else comes to mind
>>
>>214590986
>removed all french and anglo writers from the high school world literature curriculum

BASED

>and replaced them with russian ones.

grim, should have replaced them with EU (German) authors
>>
>>214592934
I so befriended Emma Bovary with Anna Karenina in my mind, they are too alike
>>
>>214593077
no they're all men without qualities
>>
>>214593157
Actually we have a word for that in German: DERMANNOHNEEIGENSCHAFTEN
>>
>>214593754
> kilometrik as per usual
> I don't know if I like the dasein that much
>>
>>214591384
English-language literature is kino and at least americans explored the lofty and human subjects when eurofaggots were writing about ballroom dances, love triangles and banquets
>>
>>214590986
they did that here but they replaced all the books with graphic novels and books written by black people
>>
>>214591774
>Raskolnikov
he was about to have sex with that hooker woman if he didn't chud out at the last minute. also he had an arranged marriage but his fiance died suddenly
>>
>>214597234
I think if we forced kids to read C&P here a lot less mass shootings would happen. It clearly outlines the grief and punishment you'll receive if you commit a senseless atrocity
>>
>>214594800
So you're saying English lit is basically the same type of subject material as Russian where every work is a bioptic on the human condition? So who cares if English lit is replaced by Russian lit by that point.
>>
>>214599680
Don't think there was much reciprocal influence between american and russian literature in the 19th and early 20th century, so while the focus was similar their style and tone of the works were different.
Ideally you'd still have the choice of reading both Hawthorne and Sherwood Anderson and Turgenev and Chekhov.
But as a couple of anons say above, literature is wasted on teenagers so there's no problem at all to begin with.
>>
>>214590986
>high school
>reading
even before chatgpt nobody actually read shit and everybody just got stuff from the internet
ya'll nerds or something?
