Lake Abert is a shallow salty lake in southern Oregon. During the summer, the water recedes near some areas of its coastline, exposing large salt flats. The lake supports large numbers of brine shrimp, which attract migratory birds. It is considered one of the most important migratory bird sites in the western US. Lake Abert is bordered on its eastern coast by the Abert Rim, a volcanic escarpment rising up to 1,000m above the lake, popular with paragliders due to strong wind currents in the area.
