Chinese were encouraged to rebel after seeing how modern and free Hong Kong was in comparison. Like Hong Kong, Taiwan being an easily accessible example of a China without CCP control (a more free and far richer area) encourages rebellion just by existing. If Taiwan became a poor dictatorship they wouldn't care.

They are considered a rebellious province and they create security issues for mainland China. But I am not under the impression that Sri Lanka is in any way a security threat to India.
