I didn't knew that Germans and Austrians also liked built wooden houses like Scandinavians, Finns and Russians
>>214614239Wood was and still is a very common building materiall. Why is that surprising?
>>214614239Russians have never built a house.
>>214614458i thought Germans and Autrians and Swizz were half-timbered houses nations. Germany and Austrian and Switzerland always associated with half-timbered houses and seeing wooden houses in thesecountries seems really strange to me
>>214614239This one looks kinda Russian desu.
>>214614608>i thoughtDoubtful.
>>214614584and where did we live in your oponion?
>>214614239it's more common in mountainous areas because in most of Europe forests are only in the mountainseastern Europe and Scandinavia are basically the only places in Europe where there are still forests in plainsfunnily enough, in Balkan Slavic languages 'gora' means 'forest', even though the original meaning of this word is 'mountain', but apparently this pattern forest=mountains was so strong there so it caused that shift in meaning
>>214614643yes,i thought the same. i wanted to write on OP about this
>>214614690>most of Europe forests are only in the mountainsHorrible place...
>>214614239austrian wooden houses completely mog our nordic ones, but i always wonder was it worth it?nordic wooden house>buildt in a week>last hundreds of yearsaustrian wooden house>must take a year or two to build>last for as long as nordic wooden house
Germans were so kind to have left a lot of beautiful wooden houses in the Sudetenland for usthanks, Hans
>>214614727i read that only in 18th century Swizz started build Wooden houses, it became popular. When i saw Switzerland in South Park, it looked to me like Russia because of a lot of Wooden houses
>>214614681pig styes
>>214614608Building half timbered houses up to modern standards is incredibly expensive and basically only done by rich cities like Frankfurt rebuilding their historic city center.

>>214614727>>214614820i found a pic from South Park
>>214614946you know, it's a small town in the middle of nowhere, there is nothing to do there other than walking in the mountains so most people either use these houses as "dachas" or rent them to tourists
>>214614915cheap
>>214614946I thought houses in the countryside are cheap in Russia
some German houses look kinda Slavic>>214614990>flagwell, obviously nothing herewould seem expensive to you
>>214614820could be, pic related is 700 years old and still used as a home. lots have been done to it since then but the core log structure is the same.
>>214615006If they're good, they're not cheap.
>>214615016>some German houses look kinda SlavicThis vaguely reminds me of Ukrainian and southern Russian village houses

>>214614951you won't find that kind of house for under 2m
>>214615101This is how houses used to look all over europe, I don't think it's exclusive just to far east
>>214615354except in the far east you can still see them here and there, that's the difference
>>214614608Half timbering exist in those countries as well but houses with an entirely wooden facade (as it seems that you want to focuse on those) were also built.>>214614643There is only so much you can do with a given material.
>>214615145well because it is norwegian?
>>214615269>it's a Belarussian village in eastern Polandoh. I had a pic of this villagy. but i thought that it's in Russia. But Belarus doesn't surprise me
>>214615354>This is how houses used to look all over europe, I don't think it's exclusive just to far easti don't this so. I think you can see something like this only in Eastern Europe and closer to the center, but you won't find anything similar in Western Europe, Scandinavia and the Mediterranean
>>214615854>I had a pic of this villagy.why? you don't have a lot of similar ones in Russia?
>>214616063>you don't have a lot of similar ones in RussiaWe have quite a lot of similar villages
>>214616164nicehere they're rare and mostly associated with orthodox peoplecatholics did have their wooden housing style too but they were demolished and replaced with cookie-cutter brickslop earlier
>>214615462i thought u will say that this is also in Swezzerland
Afaik Russians don't really build from wood anymore, when you look at new surburbs around Russian cities, almost all houses are made of bricks.
>>214616552Nah, people still build from wood. But it's cheaper in many regions to build houses from autoclaved concrete blocks, that's why its more prevalent.
Wood working came from Europe
>>214616474no it was an example on how nordic houses are simple and functional and according to a previous poster several hundred years older than austrian houses that became popular in 1800.
>>214617569i thought our wooden houses also were simple and functional before 18th
>>214614681just imagine how many fucking trees were felled to make this instead of just using any other better material
>>214619469What material can you use if everything around looks like the vid and some trees around it?https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RSKJl3Ljviw
>>214619507mudbricks!
>>214614608austria barely has half-timber, thats more of a german/swiss thing, we do full wood like picrel are very commonly seen
>>214620280whats common in especially the mountainous regions are these types of houses, where wood is mostly used after the ground floor
>>214620280>>214620478What age are your homes on average? How often have these homes suffered from fire in the past?(like in Russia)
>>214619469>just imagine how many fucking trees were felled to make this instead of just using any other better materialYeah, if only we had something other than wood. The main reason for the prevalence of wooden houses was that, unlike your regions, we had a shortage of stone and other materials, but were surrounded by forests. That's why we couldn't build anything but wood for a long time.
>>214621491a "average age" is hard to say, a lot has been built since ww2 of course, wether due to destruction or a construction boomTheres also no statistic as to how often something caught aflame, but it seems to mostly have been bakeries that caught aflame rather than normal homes, its been common to have Saint Florian (patron saint of firefighters) painted on some buildings (non wood houses), or have a statue or icon of his in old homes to dispel fire
>>214621715mostly our wooden houses are from 19th-early20th centuries. Most of the wooden houses(before 19th century) did not survive because they were constantly damaged by fires.
>>214622177id think probably similar
>>214621567they couldn't atleast cut them into planks?
>>214622312>they couldn't atleast cut them into planks?what do u mean?
>>214622264Do you have any medieval houses? Here in Russia until the 18th century everything was built mainly from wood, so almost nothing from before the 18th century has survived
>>214622632sadly almost nothing, either because its wood like in your case, or they were replaced by later baroque and 19th century architecture buildings
>>214622632like here from the 1600s, a landmark of the town of Dornbirn (near switzerland), used to be a inn, still is now
>>214623000Cool. Not the anon, but here's the oldest wooden building that haven't been destroyed in my region. It's an old church, built in 1617.
>>214623000>>214623213apperantly this is the oldest in austria, a farm dated in the 1460s
>>214615365You can here as well, it is a coastal thing here in northern germany.
>>214623000wooden palace from the 1600s. One of the few remaining
>>214623353According to google this is the oldest in our country. A church built in 1391.
>>214623443It was destroyed by Catherine the Great as I remember. Then it was rebuilt only in 21st century.
>>214623446Can you find an oldest wooden houses in Russia?
>>214623488was not destroyed. It was simply taken apart and placed in museums, and then reassembled from the surviving original parts.
>>214623503Tried to google it, there are many different claims and none of them are official. I should probably check open old architecture museums.
>>214623446>>214623443i really like russian architecture, at least our wooden houses are kind of similar
>>214623835the same about austrian and swizz Russian Wooden architecture in decoration for Russian Movie about Medieval lRussia
I doubt anyone in German speaking countries really build wooden houses nowadaysor they are made to look like one but they arentNordic wooden houses are almost always just wood even with insulations minus some elements like frost insulation on foundation and roof obviously and around fireplaces
>>214623835Museum of Wooden Architecture Vitoslavlitsy in Russia
>>214624008it is a luxury thing and/or done to keep certain areas looking good (tourism I guess). Reet-roofs are expensive etc.
>>214624132reet roofs are Germanic thing that only appear in Baltics, Denmark and Germanic countries and Finns didnt use them. We used either the same kind of roofing as you can see in that old Russian church or we used wood shingles. Given that most of them arent firesafe, you dont see traditional roofs anywhere in normal housing. Old towns that with their metal roofs are usually the oldest ones outside of some old church buildings
>>214624328I am saying that I knew a (rich) family that decided to have their vacation home to be built like this. They rent it out (of course) If tehy are not using it.
>>214624388here that kind of roof would most likely have trouble with permits since there is not that many people experienced with them so they wouldnt really know what to sayI am not sure how you make it firesafe, maybe its not that big of a problem anyway in Germanic countries because you dont heat your houses that much
