>China looks futuristic AF but has the gdp per capita of Mexico (which has 0km of HSR compared to Chyna's 50000km)what a poopy metric
>>214635214Another victim of chinaganda holy
>>214635214because most people don't live in Hong Kong, Shenzen, Shanghai, or Bejing
Genuine question, did America come up with GDP per capita as a metric to make ourselves look better than the rest of the world? There are tons of countries in Europe where the quality of living is clearly above America’s but the GDP per person is lower, but also the cost of living is way lower. I don’t get it.
>>214635214Most of China looks like Eastern Europe combined with SEA, surrounding a nice, fresh city center. Not a total shithole but not like the tiktoks eitherhttps://youtu.be/GAOQ1EHvR_c?si=doARf6MgGt-FB3WyThis is probably most representative of a normal areahttps://youtu.be/xU9cwHWowKc?si=4y_ohfYeY5THneTPoorer urban areas
>>214635214When you put most of your GDP into public works you tend to get better looking cities. It's more about what the money is put into and how much you're willing to bend over for private companies. Most Chinese cities (the newer touristy ones) are built very quickly with prefabricated parts, Mexico and the US dumps their GDP into 'services'. It's kind of obnoxious because it's really only developing countries that do public works, there was a time where even Chile was considered high tech and futuristic back when they took on development loans for Project Cybersyn, but they rebelled against it. In the 90s China was about as developed as India so generally speaking you can get a lot done with just public works, no labor laws, and extreme centralization if the public stomachs enough Liveleak factory accidents.
>>214635257wuxi is the richest city in mainland china
>>214635759Soul slums where people are living meaningful lives.
>>214635214I feel like electrification is also a bad metric as every pretend Communist country pushes for it.And personally I'd rather the view of my window look like a city and not the inside of some cringe gamer's PC.
>>214635426america has both high gdp and gdp per capita, retard. if anything, gdp per capita makes smaller tax haven countries look betterHDI is supposed to better capture actual living conditions but some of its formula is retarded too. IIRC "expected education" is part of it and it had some retarded shit like Australians expecting to be in school for 22 yearsalso the differences in the top 20-30 are very low
>>214635426No we pushed GDP in general as a one-size-fits-all metric because it's what we're good at, and it allowed the elites to ignore shit like the cost of living, or any other metric that disrproportionately effects non-wealthy sorts.
>>214636724i would not say the life quality in liechtenstein is the same as in the us. it's infinitely better in liechtenstein
>>214636826the US is so huge that it depends where you are in the USthat HDI is equal to Oregon, New York, or Virginia. which sounds about right.
>>214635214>look this cherry-picking tiktok video of neon cities in coastal economic exclusive zones! China is literally richer than Japan now!
>>214636896>>214636826>>214636724Like I said, HDI is retarded for a couple of reasons>expected years of schooling is complete bullshit. look at australia with 20.7 years of "expected" schooling but their people only average 12.9>mean years of schooling is better, but doesn't capture the quality of education>gni per capita would probably be better replaced with median income, poverty rates, or some mixture of the twointerestingly if you remove the bullshit "expected" years of schooling, Germany moves up 2 spots to #3 and US moves up 11 spots to #6.
>>214635214>neon lights makes something futuristic lol
>>214635214China has big inequality between rural and urban. The rural parts are basically third world. But the urban parts are near first world status
>>214635214gdp and gdp per capita don't measure what you think they measure.>>214635257here's china's poorest province.
>>214639126by gdp*
>>214639126>literally the one good city in the provinceGuizhou is pretty but its basically Qing dynasty tier outside of the capital region. Even Guangdong is like that if you get thirty miles outside of the Delta.
>>214639193>basically Qing dynasty tier outside of the capital regionexactly my kinda place desu. maybe i'll take a flight to check it out when i go to xiamen at some point.
>>214639324There is a certain SOVL to it, these densely packed hovels basically. Never would want to live there for real but it definitely has an earthiness and charm that the cookie cutter glass tower urban centers of most Chinese cities lack
>>214639126Poor by what metric
>>214635214China will win because they are Chinese. The west is losing because we're getting dumber, browner, and more divided every year. In China, if you want to take the train somewhere you just do it. It's safe. It's predictable. In the west, you're risking your life to take public transportation. China just has to wait 15 years or so and the west will have an average IQ of 85.Do nothing.Win.
The shittiest half of a country is probably a better metric for how well they have it together.
China is a third world shithole that tricks low iq people into thinking it's not by putting lightbulbs on their buildings
>>214639432Then why did you flee Chink?
