>>214639030After my school told my parents I wasn't making friends even into fifth grade they started taking me to shrink after shrink, each time refusing the autism diagnosis because, "We didn't raise you to have autism!" until eventually one shrink prescribed me as "bipolar with a psychotic edge" (whatever that means) and put me on antipsychotics until I was sixteen and stopped taking them all together. The years from 13-16 are a complete blur to me for the most part because I was utterly zombified. I'd come home from school and just stare at the wall watching the shadow of the sun for hours until it was night. If I'm being honest I still feel kind of fucked up from those drugs a decade later. Please never put your children on them.

Also, knowing a professional psychologist and seeing the hot mess that is her personal life really punctures the whole gimmick of them being trusted professionals. I'm surprised the doctors and psychiatrists were just okay with that damage clearly happening in front of everyone's eyes. I do think there's at least more of a pushback against these types now that enough kids have been fucked up by them.
