I just signed a rental contract for a private 12,5 m2 room for 298 euros/month. Electricity, water, internet, sauna, gym, laundry room, communal kitchen and seperate private storage are all included in the fixed rent. The whole building complex was build in the early 2000s and underwent renovation in 2017. Also the state pays me to study so I get 517 euros of taxpayer money to pay for the rent and to live on top of the state guaranteed student loan.

I now imagine americans having to share a smaller room with a another person with a rent 3 times as high that they have to pay for themselves.

I would spend 2000-4000 euros on a wooden house with a sauna by the lake. It would be a sauna-house and a summer cottage
