I think we all have seen those "LOOK CHINA HAS NEON LIGHTS AND TALL BUILDINGS!" webms, but recently I've been coomsuming chinese media and everything portrays cities as big gritty, slums filled with despair despite having things like free healthcare, transportation or welfare and where people are vain cunts who don't care about others.
Now, I believe that could describe almost every major city and that they may be biased to create a shock effect, but the experience of the average chinese would be less biased than chinese influencers and figures telling westerners how good China is.

Every mainlander Chinese who lives here describes China as a place that's good if you know that you're leaving.

>need to live in upper class neighborhoods to avoid being liveleaked
>need to buy standardized stuff. Off brands are known to carry toxic, unregulated ingredients
>work culture
>avoid place with no mass transit
Other than that, nice place to visit
