So is everyone in Ausfailia on fucking welfare or something? I work in admissions at a school here and most Aussies are great but I've noticed that almost all of them are very particular about how we pay out their scholarship money. I asked once and they mentioned it may affect their Centrelink payments back home. Now I'm thinking, okay...students are usually poor so I get it but uh...isn't that trying to pull one over at the tax office? Can you actually get away with it? Japan would string me up by my dick if I tried to tax evade.
Did you go to international school or some shit? You type like a retarded American woman speaks (this is a compliment)
>>214671662I'm a filthy halfu. I grew up in the states. I went to regular American school until I graduated. I kept up my Japanese language but am not as good as a true native. Good enough to work though and my English is native level so I can do a lot of jobs native Japanese can't or don't want to do. Working with foreign exchange students is pretty easy for me.
If it's a school then they're probably on Youth Allowance, which is a welfare scheme available for young adults who are studying. If you're on welfare here then you have to declare all income that you make or else you're at risk of needing to return the payments made to you. Youth allowance is paid fortnightly, and the amount you get depends on how much money you make during that fortnight, so the more money you make during that fortnight, the less you'll receive. If you make enough money, then you don't receive anything at all.My guess is that they're worried the scholarship payment will increase their income and then decrease their Youth Allowance, so they'll end up with basically no profit.
I assumed it was just bureaucracy nonsense.Never worked or studied beyond high school so wouldn't know what's happening.I don't think it would count as tax evasion.
>>214672002That makes sense. I guess it would depend on if Australia classifies it at taxable income. Or just any income at all can offset the allowance? Japan generally doesn't tax scholarships so I never really thought about it. I'm happy to write what they need on their certificate and the scholarships can be used for living expenses which is a pretty broad category anyway. >>214672043Yeah, tax evasion might be overkill and not the right word. But I understand they wouldn't want their allowance to be lowered. If you work hard enough to qualify for a scholarship, you should enjoy it in addition to your other income, imo. It's gonna go back into the economy anyway the way these guys spend.
>>214672218Yeah from what I remember, any income at all needs to be declared, so I think that's why.
>So is everyone in Ausfailia on fucking welfare or something?A large portion of our population is on the government's teat, one way or another. Just look at the surge in infant autism after 10 years of NDIS rorts
>>214672756Blame the doctors. They're literally the only line of defence between some bogan shit fraudster and getting lifelong disability benefits
>>214672756>>214672780How do you cunts survive on centrelink
