cocoliche/lunfardo was a sort of contact language where no two people would speak the same, someone would arrive being fluent only in either lombardian, piedmontese or ligurian and try to mix in italian and spanish vocabulary to be better understood by both locals and other immigrants. It was a product of necessity and stopped being practical as old immigrants learned spanish and new immigrants stopped coming
as for embracing the fusion, words from lunfardo/cocoliche still survive mixed in rioplatense spanish, it wasnt hated, just impractical
