>we? We are free market capitalists in America! Freedom and democracy yeeehaw *sanctions and tariffs literally two thirds of the planet*
>>
The rest of the world isn't America. It isn't governed by our laws, principles, or people. That's why you have fences to regulate what comes in, people or products. This is very obvious stuff. We aren't a borderless free for all economic zone we're a country.

Trump is a communist who also plans on nationalizing major American businesses so you're right OP and ignore this clown >>214719821

Yeah the immigrants are exploiting you but your empire is falling. Le savior Trump is delaying the inevitable, total collapse of the Great Jesus (because Satan is actually a good guy)

The US have never really been the ravenous capitalists that many make them out to be, their path to industrialisation was protectionist with significant goverment investment in infrastructure e.g. railways and canals in the UK were all built using private funds, whilst in the US they were half funded and grants were made to aid in their completion. The US has always had a more top down and coherent industrial policy.
>>
Regressing back to protectionism is a sympton of the decay of american imperialism. The british too regressed back to protectionism once their industrial capabilities were vastly outnumbered by America.

Now its China who will want to expand free trade in order to flood the world with their goods
>>

>The british too regressed back to protectionism
No we didn't, we let out industry wither and die in favour of free market globalism.
>>
>>214719956
less than 12% of products sold here are made in the US.
>>
>>214719930
Why would be reinstitute economic policy from a time when we were poorer?
>>
Reminder that trumptard's tariffs are actually pretty mild compared to some of the ones Canada and European countries have had on American goods for decades to protect their gay cheese industries.
>>
>>214722994

Quite the opposite. If Britain had doubled down and turned into a mercantilist, protectionary state, they would still exist as a world power right now. Instead they got sucked dry by hyperglobalism and turned into a little brown whore.

We are on the same path and that's why we're course correcting.

>doesn't look at the chart which shows socialism (income tax rape) replace pragmatic tariff based revenue sources

From a time when we were going from colonial backwater launching forward into superpower status, you mean? our years of greatest real growth? When we built things like the hoover dam and the first skyscrapers and the panama canal and national rail? That was a "poor period" to you? You like the modern era of being a little wagie nigger for a gobal megacorpo laying off half its staff for indians, and the government building a bridge taking 20 years?
>>
The same nation many of you worship and fetishize, China, follows this model. Nationalistic, protectionistic, mercantilistic policy. They take every advantage possible (they want you to suck up their exports), while protecting their domestic industry (basically no one is allowed to do business in China, it's entirely internal and domestic). This is a fast track to rapid growth. You are the sucker holding the bag and if you have no border/trade laws or protections. This is just how it is. You can cry about it all you want but this is the way and it will succeed. Whether subsequent Presidents follow the strategy remains to be seen.
