Huh, I've watched the series three times and never thought of it as hell. Just as death, generally. Nothing about it looks bad. The home seems comforting, actually, with everyone waiting for him inside.
>>
>>214809829
Sopranos is GOATed. Maybe not the best show ever but definitely top 10. If you don't love it you can't appreciate comedy.

>Just as death, generally. Nothing about it looks bad
You mean other than the looming phantom of his mother at the door and the fact that pleading voice of his daughter is begging him not to go in? It's canonical in the Sopranos that the paranormal and Hell exist so where exactly do you think Tony was going to end up when he died?
>The home seems comforting, actually, with everyone waiting for him inside
Yeah because Tony is a depressive basket case, he wishes he was dead on many levels. Also remember when Christopher goes to Hell and it's an Irish bar? Tony goes to this place and it's a house party playing Mexican mariachi music

Goodfellas is masturbatory bullshit just as everything else by Scorsese. I've really come to hate normal mafia/criminal movies. Sopranos is different.
>>
>>214812603
Totally agree, but still, soprano is very overrated and thanking God almost no one in Italy knows about it. I found it to be too "American-ish" and i hate the plot of him being a mafia boss who goes to this psychologist because of some ducks or something. Him having a coalburner and whore of a daughter and a retarded son, doesn't help. I love Gomorrah more.
>>
>>214812469
>>
>>214812792
>>
>>214812722
>I found it to be too "American-ish"

thats literally the entire point of the show, his life is completely and utterly fake and he's coming to terms with it along with whatever violent mental illnesses he has rampant inside his head. he's a powerful mafia boss yet his wife, children, family, subordinates, mafia higher-ups and everything around him makes his life complete garbage, the ultimate story of the modern american man it's a critique of society

there's the entire arc where they go back to italy and get massively dissapointed because they realize they're nowhere close to italians/italian mafia
>>
>>214812792
>>
>>214812822
Yeah, because the Italian mafia were (and are) more ruthless and more tremendously honest. Like when they made fun of Anthony because he offered a price too big for the cars, and Furio was trying to fix everything. But i think that Soprano was trying to show that the "good old days" of mafia gangs are far too gone and those who still exist are just "glorified crews". Those who were involved got legit or ended up in jail or killed.

That sounds a lot like Mad Men. Guy's literally living the American dream - grew up in grinding poverty on a farm and then a whore house, but pulled himself up by his bootstraps to become incredibly successful, rich, envied, and influential, with a hot wife and nice kids but he was still miserable.

Oh yeah, she features heavily, especially her relationship with her dad and mom. Don Draper is the main character but it's still kind of an ensemble show. She goes from idolizing him to being disgusted with him to starting to understand him. They lucked out casting such a young actress that so closely resembled her parent actors and also turned out to be a talented actress.

No, it's showing that the "good old days" never actually existed and their setup has always been an evil cannibalistic organization that preys on human weakness

From wikipedia:
>The series's main character is charismatic advertising executive Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm), a talented creative director at Sterling Cooper. Though erratic and mysterious, he is widely regarded throughout the advertising world as a genius; some of the most famous ad campaigns in history are shown to be his creations. In later seasons, Don struggles as his highly calculated identity falls into a period of decline. The show follows the people in his personal and professional lives, most notably Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss), who is introduced as Don's secretary but soon discovers her passion for copywriting. It also focuses heavily on the characters of Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser), a young executive at the firm; Betty Draper (January Jones), Don's wife; Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks), the firm's office manager; Roger Sterling (John Slattery), one of Don's partners; and in later seasons, Sally Draper (Kiernan Shipka), Don's oldest child.[3][4][5][6] As the series progresses, it depicts the changing moods and social mores of the United States throughout the 1960s and early 1970s.
>Mad Men received widespread acclaim for its writing, acting, directing, visual style and historical authenticity. It won many awards, including 16 Emmys and five Golden Globes. It was also the first basic cable series to receive the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, winning it each year of its first four seasons (2008–2011).[7] It is widely regarded as one of the greatest television series of all time and as part of the early 21st century Golden Age of Television.[8][9][10]

But more generally life, finding fulfillment, and relationships.

sopranos is a good show but its incredibly bloated because it was from a time when viewers weren't expected to watch every single episode so the overall plot of a season moves at a snail place and like a 1/3 of the runtime is dedicated to shit nobody cares about like AJ and Meadow
