Life in Russia feels like F#m
>>214821008I hate how mindnumbingly janky the whole note system is.>dude learn music theory it’s math you’ll like itIt’s engineering math aka making approximations and then suffering the consequences.

>>214821060What? You don't love "Kirnberger III" and other tuning systems for autists?

>>214821932It is always jank because it tries to approximate rationals with irrationals. The Greeks had it right and the Enlightenment ruined it.
>>214821716and russians love it

>>214822210The notes are off (multiplicatively) by the twelfth root of two. If that sounds random, it’s because it fucking is. It does a decent job of approximating most simple fractions, but there’s always some weird exception to the rule, especially with diminished chords and so on. Basically, it’s good for basic stuff and terrible for the more involved stuff as things get extremely messy.
>>214821060>>214821955how would you transpose something?
>>214822417The field of rationals is translation-invariant under rational shifts, as with any other field (or ring for that matter).
