Is Hearts of Iron IV worth picking up 10 years later? Are there other Paradox titles worth checking out? What historical/strategy games are worth playing in your country?
>>
>>215130197
I just bought this shit couple of days ago with all DLCs, played couple of hours and got bored to death
If I will play any Paraslop I'd play CK3

Its not a bad game but most of the fanbase are 15 year old losers who think they dont have any friends in school because theyre smarter than everyone else when in reality its because they are insufferable
>>
>>215130197
Haven't played it much but it seems to be one of their best games. I think Imperator is underrated but it needs a mod or two
>>
>>215130236
Pavel how's work?
>>
>>215130197
just pirate it mate you can pirate all the best mods too
>>
>>215130272
That's why I play TNO exclusively
>>
It doesn't matter tho, Johan will blast all these nu-PDX titles to shit with EUV
>>

I'm on my month off right now

Try Victoria 2 with TGC mod
Or Victoria 3 if you're a casual
>>
this is one of the many games that the kirk shooter put thousands of hours into
>>
>>215130197
no
t. 800 hours
>>

actually the guy played a lot of sea of thieves and tf2

you can look at his screenshots

What's the difference between Victoria 2 and 3?

holy shit
>>

Isn't this one of those games where you need a degree just to understand how everything works?
>>
>>215130236
>with all DLCs
are you a son of some oligarch? map coloring simulators have like a 1000 dlcs each
>>215130197
only if you have severe autism
it's basically ms paint combined with a calculator so if that sounds like fun to you then have fun I guess

Victoria 2 + HPM mogs Victoria 2
>>
>>215130945
no it's the easiest gsg. jsut draw lines on a map and paint freely. the AI is braindead. as a small nation you can easily overcome bigger nations. playing bigger nations is just a bore

I'm currently replaying some of the Anno games I have. Earlier this year it was Anno 1404. Now it is Anno 2070. Blasts from the past without paying anything for it.
>>
>>215130197
I've heard it's not a great game but people still have 1000 hours in it
>>

Is there a present day equivalent?

No, the closest we got was HOI East vs West which was binned sadly.

The millennium dawn mod.
>>
>>215130197
Hoi4 was a good vidya, I modded it myself because I know programming
>>
Equestria at war is pretty fucking good even if you're not a ponyfag
>>
Historical siam is a pretty fun playthrough, I keep going back to it.
>Axis nation but you get to build until 43
>Front line minor nation with no direct border with other axis nations
>Most resources are nearby
>Limited states for factories, and need a lot of civs because you need to build lots of railroads, need to think ahead about what equipment you need and how much
>Loads of manpower though, if you can produce it you can field it
>need to bail Japan out of China, overcome and invade India, and probably invade the Dutch east indies in a year so you can turn Japan against the soviets and bail out the axis
Only problem is that you join the war in 43 and the axis can be beyond saving anyway at that point. It's a fun nation to play, particularly going against India because you have to do most of the fighting yourself and fighting through Burma and into Bengal is hell.
>>
>>215131411
>The Millennium Dawn mod.
What it is like?
>>
>>215131442
What did you add?
>>
>>215130197
only if you steal or buy all the dlc
its a good game
>>
>>215133662
Haven‘t played in ages but afaik it‘s still regularly updated. It‘s a fun mod. Game starts on January first 2000 and you have popup events for things like 9/11. If you play the US you can not invade iraq, yadda yadda, you get the gist.
>>
>>215130197
i fucking hate navy so much and only play nations where i dont have to interact with it
>>
>>215131228
>>
>>215130197
It's whatever
Spy and navy is tedious
Focuses are biased
Germany is OP
Minor nations suck balls and has no characters
Lack of character for many important nations

Otherwise its a good grand strategy simulator

Yes, but only if you're a chud who likes to paint maps and push his extremely niche fringe ideologies onto the world through violence and despair.
>>215130945
>Isn't this one of those games where you need a degree just to understand how everything works?
Out of all Paradox games, it's the easiest to learn, with possibly the exception of Stellaris (I'd say they're about as complicated as each other, which is to say, not very).
>>
>>215130197
Yes, put a hundred hours into it to learn the mechanics then download the millennium dawn mod.
>>
>>215130197
I tried this game but it seems like it just plays itself unlike the other autism games.
People talk about micro to make epic encirclements but for me having the right unit templates + brute forcing with battle plans is enough to win.
>>
>>215131174
Based if you settle the desert with europeans
>>
H4 is extremely gay because of the dumb AI, the national focus shit, and most especially the battle plans shit you just draw lines like a retard and get buffs for it, also there are no hq units like in h3
>>
>>215139509
that's when you only play majors and don't have to micro, try a minor weak nation
>>
EU4 is my favorite. I haven't even bought any of the DLC yet and have still sunk tons of time into it. There's simply so much going on from 1400-1820, so many storylines all over the world.
>>
>>215140803
I did it as communist china.

>>
>>215140925
commie china is super strong desu and japan is kinda weak. you basically have infinite divisions, everyone gives you equipment and can afford brute forcing with a trillion casualties
>>
>>215140925
and another thing, microing is always stronger even if battleplanning gets the job done easily. id rather win sooner than later
>>
>>215130197
I don't know but I played it on release and it was barebones as fuck, I remember easily conquering half the USSR as Greece without knowing what the fuck I was doing and like only 8 countries had decision trees

>>215141520
You mean the drive research simulator?
>>
>>215141464
I don't doubt it, but the thing is that battle planning takes less real time since you just x4 it.
I found my playtrough as the USSR to be actually harder than China, since you have more things to juggle before Hitler comes knocking, but if you build up a wall of infantry and forts he will suicide into it until he runs out of guns or manpower.
Italy seems like it may actually need some closer attention to win, despite being the tutorial country
>>
>>215138765

which is better for a first mod playthrough millennium dawn or fire rises?

Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game
The GOAT
>>

>>215141620
microing against germany as the USSR is mega strong when you're on the defensive, i took berlin by 1942 last game because of major encirclements

Yes, Kyiv avaits
>>
>>215141857

oh, and ck2 is good ive never played ck3 tho. my biggest gripe with ck2 is just how i don't see how it can be possible to win against any enemy thats larger than you. but i may be stupid, i dont play it at all compared to hoi4.
>>
>>215146859
don't have the dlc

its good if you have micromanagement autism

I've been playing that recently. It's alright, but I prefer the other paradox games. That said, being xenophobic humans and conquering other species is pretty fun.
