I make a point of avoiding the places.Now that I think about it, I think I just randomly decided to attend a great uncle's funeral about ten years ago, someone I never knew or had any relationship with. It was an ordinary protestant sort of church service. I got dressed, sat at the back away from everyone else and didn't participate in the activity, remaining seated. Afterwards I found a cousin or two (who I knew although we're not close), shook their hands and gave condolences, then left quickly.
