Most likely why Catholic countries in Europe have a much longer history with authoritarianism (Franco, Salazar, Mussolini) than Protestant countries who have this idea of creating your own group when you don’t like the current one.

>>215336461Im not a specialist, but i think that in Russia's case it is because it never actually managed to industrialize and develop and form a national elite/bourgeoisie that would look for the economic interests of the nation.Therefore the only elites that exist in modern russia are the oligarchs that managed to steal the stuff that the USSR built during the 90s and enrich themselves. The only way these oligarchs can mantain their power inside russia is via authoritarianism, because think about it, once your country is democratic it is more vulnerable to foreign interference, so western nations who are more economically powerfull would easily buy out russian politicians and turn russia into a vassal state of the west to its own detriment.So this is why i think authoritarianism is ever present in russia, and will be for a very long time..
