the saying was "a language has an army and a navy"

they are dialectical

czechs and slovaks are also
>>

Why not just use Icelandic?
>>
>>215352587
Most would agree they are just different dialects of the same language.

>czechs and slovaks are also
don't let them hear you say that

i kinda agree but dialects of what language? this is where it falls aparts. norwegian has many dialects, swedish as well, danish idk? but since none can say exactly what language norwegian, swedish and danish are supposed to be dialects of then maybe they are infact languages after all?

>but dialects of what language?
whatever simplified mutttongue the upperclass, royals etc spoke.
there are bigger variation inside each "language" than between the 3 standardised versions, atleast used to be.
>>
>>215358974
one of the definitions of a dialect is that its "of a language" and its what makes the different dialects able to communicate, we have a common language to fall back on. i dont have that when i speak to a swede.

yea sure
but still standard danish is closer to standard swedish than east jutlandic dialects
