I was watching Downton Abbey and I thought it was interesting how Americans are seen as shameless liberals and progressives while Euros are considered more consertive and attached to tradition.But isn't nowadays the opposite? To me it feels that way to some extent.

Even the Vatican can be said to have a left wing.America seemed more liberal at the time because most of their elites were new money types, like Henry Ford and Rockefeller, while in Europe they were old money nobility and aristocrats.
