Can the French understand the Quebec French?
>>215374694they barely understand french french
I always wondered how Belgian and Swiss and Luxembourgian and Monacan French differed when compared to French spoken in mainland France
>>215374694Yes but they sound goofy and have weird sayings>>215374813Not much except they have an accent and say nonante instead of quatre-vingt
>>215375854Osti de tabarnak de la vierge de trou de cul de siboire ou quelque chose comme ça, pote T. Amerloque qui va voyager à Montréal bientôt. Si je fais une erreur, corrigez-moi SVP
>>215374694same way we understand mutted out "English"
>>215376247Caribbean «English» is hard AF. It’s basically a creole
>>215374694Quebecers are to Metropole French what NZ/Aussies are to Americans.>t. retard that immersed himself in Quebecois French and called a Pain au Chocolat a Chocolatine in France to where I was mercilesssly mocked
yeah but their accent sounds very silly to us, it's hard to take them seriously
>>215376317that's what other francophones say about you. oh and btw they all hate you for being pretentious little pricks. at least i can speak for luxembourg and belgium
>>215376302Isn’t it called Chocolatine in South West France doe? Also Québécois is more traditional than mainland French. Don’t they say La fin de semaine and Le Courriel électronique too?
>>215376224Reste dans ton esti de pays de marde ou tu vas te faire péter la gueule.
>>215376317There are some French expressions I cannot take seriously>Se poser un lapin >Coucou >Wesh >Babtou
>>215374813Those fuckers can't say 70, 80 and 90
>>215376340>Isn’t it called Chocolatine in South West France doeYeah but I was in PACA attempting to join the FFL
>>215376351Trop tard. J’ai mon nouveau passeport. Vous êtes entendrez mon français cassé. À bientôt :)
>>215376339I know, that's the case for most of europe I think
>>215376426How’d that go? What filtered you?
>>215376357look up : avoir le cul bordé de nouilles
>>215376411Did they always use septante, huitante, and nonante or was this something they introduced like 30 or 40 years ago?
>>215376411yea it's much easier to say it split into different parts and add them together instead of using a logical way to say it
>>215376493no it was used sinultaneously during middle ages. difference is that celtic people used base 20 number system and romans used base 10 and modern french decided to say some of the numbers using base 20 to larp as Gauls
>>215376466Génial. Merci mon ami. Je l’ajouterai à mon lexique o algo así
>>215376534I don’t mind using quatre vingt and quatre vingt dix. It’s stupid but it has soul and isn’t that confusing. Plus don’t Danes have something similar but more convoluted?
>>215376453>How’d that goIf I were to describe it it's like Spirited Away mixed with the first half of Full Metal Jacket, it's an experience I'll never forget as long as I live and it was the happiest I had ever been.>What filtered you?Being American and delusional. I met all the physical requirements and got along with quite a few of the caporal-chefs, but they were deeply skeptical of me for being an American with weird motivations. They were especially bothered by the fact that I had no real history with girls or weed as an attractive White American, and they also really didn't like that I was political. I gave them the wrong impression and it took them a while to figure out whether I was material or not, I was there for 2.5 weeks.
>>215376493similar things happened in Danish language where they use half integer in a base 20 system to say those numbers. so in danish number seventy is halvfjerds or literally half fourths as in half four times 20
>>215376576>Danes yes see this >>215376612yea i guess you're right it's unique at least
>>215374694To my EFL ears quebecois sounds like a racist parody of an asian speaking french (i've heard a vietnamese speak quebecois before it wasnt very pleasing)
>>215374694From my experience, they can understand us, but they need to get used to it beforehand. Similar to how an average Anglo from the New World would initially struggle in Glasgow, but would probably be relatively at ease within a couple of weeks.Oh and of course with some rural Québécois with egregiously strong accents, they could probably never understand, but that sort of thing happens everywhere (including France).
>>215376590A lot of foreigners have the impression that the French foreign legion is basically reserved for the dregs of society. And while this is kind of true, they still reject out majority of their candidates. Plus I think most of their fodder are from African countries. >I was political Did you go an autistic rant about Trump or Macron?
>>215376653Aren’t Quebecois curses just basically invoking ordinary catholic relics?
>>215376671>most of their fodder are from African countries. They're actually from Brazil and Nepal.>Did you go an autistic rant about Trump or Macron?Surprisingly it was the opposite, they found out I was strongly sympathetic to Ukraine.Apparently the FFL has a ton of thirdie ziggers and Russians in it, and I was on the wrong side of that fence for whatever reason and it really bothered them. >TrumpThey were actually quite blunt about how much they loved Trump and hated Macron.
>>215376707The most popular ones are, yes. But we also have the same kind of "normal" swear words you'll find elsewhere in the francosphere (merde, bordel, ta gueule, etc.)
>>215376792Guess that makes sense. Can’t you try again or can they permanently bar applicants from enlisting? >They hated Macron but liked Trump Not what I expected but I kind of get it. Seems like people either really like him or detest him with a passion of a thousand suns.
>>215376904>Can’t you try again or can they permanently bar applicants from enlisting? No you can write a letter to them and try again. As long as you don't have something like AIDS and are of age you can try as many times as you want.>Not what I expected but I kind of get it.The French military is pretty famous for being chuddy and the FFL is the chuddiest of them all. That's why I wanted to join.
I've heard stories of Quebecois going to Paris on vacation and the French people will just start speaking english to them
>>215376590they expect you to have a history with weed? what?
>>215375854>and say nonante instead of quatre-vingtOk so they're not retarded
>>215375854Wouldn't nonante be quatre-vingt-dix?
>>215377490>they expect you to have a history with weedYeah because I was a 21 y/o American. They were so shocked that I had never smoked weed and said that I personally hated it that they even tried to juke me and give me a fake drug test that said I smoked it.
>>215376267it more or less is. I think they call it Patois.
Need to drop this somewhere related
>>215375854>nonante instead of quatre-vingtqrd?
Is Quebec French Creole? I know along the coast of Maine the Acadians settled, them moved into the Louisiana area and mixed with islanders and corrupted the name to "Cajun".
>>215379310No, to give an english equivalent. Imagine you grew up with american mid atlantic and you hear scottish english. We have longer and lower vowels similar to how scots do compared to standard american.
>>215374694dependssometimes they are speaking exactly like us but with a funny accent, sometimes they are completely incomprehensible. I don't know the difference accents in Canada
>>215376357>>Wesh only a thing among arabs>>Babtouonly a thing among blacks
>>215376671>>215376792it changes all the time. Today there are lots of Brazilians and South Asians, just give years ago it was lots of Slavs, but in general it's always remained with a western euro plurality. French citizens are about 15%
>>215381923>just give years agofive years ago
>>215381923>South AsiansYeah the Nepalese said there have always been decent numbers going into the FFL but their numbers have skyrocketed since COVID because of India fucking with the Gurkha process as well as the Nepalese economy being destroyed by both politcal instability/corruption and a lack of tourism. They have a saying that goes along the lines of "Gurkhas are selected, Legionnaires are collected" that sums up how their desperation. A lot of them also told me horror stories of guys that went to Russia because they couldn't cut it in the Gurkhas or FFL, apparently there were fucking thousands of them that enlisted and it became a big national tragedy there their government supressed information of. A lot of them felt resigned to ending up there if they didn't get in.As for Brazilians, I've heard there's always been a lot of them, usually split between Favela macacos going for a second chance and legion families from the South who do it as a tradition.
>>215376339We know and don't give a flying fuck
no
>>215384690I can doe
>>215376411You have perfectly fine latin words for those, use them
>>215384938No.
>>215374813A swiss told me once that they didn't sperg while saying numbers in french.
>>215374813A few words here and there, nothing major, kinda like UK English and US EnglishBiggest difference being as others have said that we don't do the number thing
