Those people came from Dalmatian hinterland and Bosnia which are God forsaken tribal shitholes with rural ottoman influence. While the coast is strongly Mediterranean influenced, the inland and it's people are more akin to South Serbia, Montenegro and Albania.

The only thing balkan about Slovenia is

The entirety of Romania and Hungary, even gypsy overrun Slovakia feel more balkan than Slovenia
