Why is America always prone to self isolationism? It's like they have to put a continuous effort in order not to slink back to their own borders and never come out again.

It's the true inheritor of the celestial empire
>>
we don’t like being associated with this scurvy and disastrous world
>>
I think the right question is the opposite, how come americans are (were?) so proactive on the world scene while being so isolationist at heart.
It's what I call the american paradox.

Consistently high immigration numbers for a populace that, once integrated, dislikes the outside world.
Embracing globalism is necessary to remain at the fore, but that doesn't mean we like everything that comes with it.

Buzzwords don't really explain why millions of americans accepted to be sent to die in faraway wars.
Even Japan attacked first in ww2 just because they thought America was going to anyway and they were probably right.

Fighting on foreign shores and inviting foreigners to your home ports are two very different things.

When you're inside the cult of socialism you genuinely cannot understand how offputting it is to outsiders because you're sure you're a moderate taking the reasonable middle position, and are always in good company of other equally stupid people, and your perpetual seething keeps you from acknowledging reality because it's always "capitalist propaganda".

So for those of us not down with the sickness why would we want to be near you if we don't have to be? Everyone either becomes you or learns to fucking avoid you by age 25.

because it's far away from any trouble and has no enemies on its borders

All empires in decadence regress into protectionism. Britain did the same. Meanwhile ascending empires such as the chinese promote free trade
>>
Pure isolation is a bit of a fantasy in the modern world, but the men who pushed for aggressive foreign wars like Wilson, FDR, etc. were so comically evil and did so much damage to the country that it's no wonder some would daydream about simpler times when we didn't need to worry about Chinese aggression.

Because the rest of the world is fucking gay

England's might was built on protectionism but near the end they heavily de-industrialized themselves on the eve on the Great War with an almost religious faith in free trade. You have no clue what you're talking about.

You need protectionism in order to industrialize. As Engels put it, protectionism is an artificial way to manufacture manufacturers.

Yet an industrialized empire has no reason to become protectionist. This only harms its own interests (which are those of the ruling class). Once industrialized you want to export as much as possible and conquest foreign markets

America's protectionism can only be explained as a reaction to the rising chinese economic power on the global stage
