Kinda and kinda not. Early on spanish born here were the rulling class but as they were pushed away by spaniards and later fought them for independance, they started the mix more with indigenous population. With time the mixed become the average and then some people start to see them as cool (one old politician of here claimed they were the superior race by having europeans brains and indigenous bodies).

After that no one really care anymore and people just live their lifes.

I have read old Encyclopedia britannica and it went different in different countries. In some they happily racemixed with each other, in some whites remained exclusive ruling class marrying between themselves, in some they racemixed but called themselves white and only really excluded black people tho the last ones were often post independence immigrants
