Was Britain actually as important to the Allies' war effort as the US and USSR? Was Italy as important as Germany and Japan? It doesn't seem like they had the same level of weapons and military capability and resources as the others.
Britain actually fought the war. They didn't just jump in to grab the spoils at the most opportune time like US. Italy fucked up big time during ww2
>>215396115From start of 1940 to the end of 1941 Britain was alone in fighting the nazis barring a few smaller countries. >It doesn't seem like they had the same level of weapons and military capability and resources as the others.Britain had the largest navy in the world up until 1942
>>215396250Isn't that more like ww1, the US fought a lot in ww2
>>215396115Well, at the time Britain certainly had a stronger navy than the USSR (or Germany for that matter). At the start of the war it was probably the strongest in the world, with only the American and the Japanese being close. And don't forget that Britain still had a vast colonial empire which provided many of the resources needed by the allies.
>>215396333In the pacific maybe not in Europe

>>215396115Won the Battle of Britain singlehandedly and defeated more Axis planes in the Battle of Britain than were shot down over the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk combined. Destroyed the luftwaffe so that the Soviets could get to Berlin. Fought the kriegsmarine so that America could get to Europe.>>215396287Then your grandfather was a retard subhuman who doesn't know anything
>>215396250>Italy fucked up big time during ww2this is true but you have to consider that:- the fascists were retards- the Chaplin mustache man caused the war to start 6 years prior to the planned date (this is a little known fact)anyway we have basically saved the world in the end
>>215396465>kriegsmarineLmao, they were a joke.
>>215396115>Was Britain actually as important to the Allies' war effort as the US and USSR?Britain was more important than the soviets>Was Italy as important as Germany and Japan?Italy was about as important as Japan, which is to say pretty irrelevant
>>215396599>planned date Care to elaborate?
>US troops landed in North Africa during Operation Torch in November 1942. Some of them were stationed on the border next to Spanish Morocco where Spanish army troops stood guard. The Spanish were less than friendly to the Americans; Spain was an ally of Nazi Germany, albeit a neutral one, and nobody could be sure if the Allies would end up going to war with Spain at some point.[3]
>>215396679>Italy was about as important as JapanWhy are terronis this dumb?
>>215396760This sounds like a thinly veiled threat
>>215396784>Both did some stuff at the start of the war and kinda just stood by the wayside waiting for the allies to invade their islands and mainland for the rest of the conflictAm I wrong tho?
>>215396695I have read somewhere that the Italian generals warned Mussolini that the armed forces were underequipped and that they would be ready for full scale war by 1945
Italy hasnt created enough seethe from surrounding cunts, which means they were simply irrelevant.
>>215396887Ah ok. Mussolini was such a unique character, it's very fascinating to watch his speeches
Italy was never really a true ally of Berlin anyway, Mussolini didn't trust them and he was also unhappy with the German annexation of Austria as he preferred to not share a border with Germany.
We were the SINGULAR lynchpin that stopped a total Nazi victory in WW2, if they managed to invade mainland Britain it would be over even with American support.russians and yanks weere objectively the ones putting in most of the work in combat though
>>215396115japan wasnt important to germany, they were mostly doing their own thing, germany actually stalled them in the rape of nanking and japan summoned the US into the war with pearl harbor

>>215397613He didn't have to care because a lot of the British state archives about WWII won't be made public until the 100th anniversary of the war in the 2040s so he knew he would be long gone by then.
>>215396975unironically this has always been my opinion of WW2. If not for Britain nazis would have won, making the UK the most important country
>>215397739On that note a lot of WW1 history has been revised since the British archives got opened in the last decade.
>>215396887Yes that was always the olan, but France collapsed really quick so Mussolini acted against everybody else's opinion and decided to burry to declare war. He thought the war wss already over
>>215398724yes we know now that a lot of the bong generals in that war were even stupider than we originally thought
>>215397739I'll be in my 50s then but can't wait to see it officially confirmed that Lee was just a clerk behind a fucking desk and didn't actually personally plant the bomb that blew up the German heavy water plant in Norway.

>>215396115They were also paying Lend Lease debts back to the US until the 80s or something.
>>215396638>>kriegsmarine>Lmao, they were a joke. The Second Happy Time and also known among German submarine commanders as the "American Shooting Season" was a phase in the Battle of the Atlantic during which Axis submarines attacked merchant shipping and Allied naval vessels along the east coast of North America. The Second Happy Time lasted from January 1942 to about August of that year and involved several German naval operations, including Operation Neuland. German submariners named it the "Happy Time" or the "Golden Time", as defense measures were weak and disorganised, and the U-boats were able to inflict massive damage with little risk. During this period, Axis submarines sank 609 ships totaling 3.1 million tons, against a loss of only 22 U-boats. Historian Michael Gannon called it "America's Second Pearl Harbor"and placed the blame for the nation's failure to respond quickly to the attacks on the inaction of Admiral Ernest J. King, commander-in-chief of the United States Navy (USN). As King also refused British offers to provide the US navy with their own ships, the belated institution of a convoy system was in large part due to a severe shortage of suitable escort vessels, without which convoys were seen as actually more vulnerable than lone ships.
>>215396115yes
>>215396115Shit bait.UK and USSR did the most. Yanks only really did the pacific and getting rich off of our sorry asses for the first few years of the war.
>>215396115The yookay's geographical position is contribution enough, and it's campaign in africa was successful. Without the UK, DDay wouldn't be possible and an invasion of southern italy would be difficult.
>>215396115Against Germany and Italy I think Britain would have won alone although might have taken 20 years and they would not achieve total capitulation, add Japan and they're fucked.
Respoted it from /k/ award
>>215402720When I say 'Britain alone' I include the Empire and Commonwealth, on reflection I feel that needed clarification.
>>215402720British India would have beaten Japan, at the Burma campaign’s height it was over a million British, Indian, and other colonial troops vs 400,000 Japs and Thais. Britain alone had a similar industrial output to Germany and there was absolutely no way the Royal Navy (+ Commonwealth navies) were going to be beaten. Honestly the only reason the war didn’t end in 1940 is that the krauts got lucky invading France
