Why does nobody do megaprojects anymore?
It feels ever since Burj Khalifa humanity just completely stagnated. Even China put a limit of 500m on skyscrapers now, you arent allowed to build taller than that
>>
>>215447237
isnt Saudi Arabia doing the line?
>>
>>215447237
Because they serve no purpose other than "bro look at me, I am richer than you".
Same as this piece of shit here in Gothenburg.
>>
>>215447237
Building taller is just pointless dickmeasuring contest after a point. You could fill the land-area BK takes and fill it with commieblocks and have the same area of office space for a small fraction of the cost.

I'm still astonished that people saw this and genuinely believed the dam was really deformed like this irl and about to break.
>>
>>215447237
Saudi Arabia is still building Jeddah Tower
>>
>>215447326
Everyone except the people who live in it hates it.

>>
>>215447376
Reminds me when someone reserved a hotel room from Eiffel-tower solely because it's the only place in Paris where you can't see Eiffel-tower.
>>
>>215447295
canada used to have the tallest building in the world because the retards there put a massive needle on top of the CN tower.

like putting on a top hat and claiming 6'2''
>>
>>215447403
Kek. Karlatornet (the building I posted) is the tallest in the Nordic countries. Now Denmark is already planning a taller one just because.
>>
>>215447237
They're building a shit ton of them but they're all the ideas of rich middle eastern retards so they're all going to fail or suck

Japan's working on a giant pyramid city though, but it won't be complete until we're old or dead
>>
>>215447353
so fucking pathetic with the tiny tips going for the technicality
>>
>>215447425
Danes have to be bigger than swedes, huh

You Americans should probably dial your dreaming back like at least 30%
>>
>>215447549
Pathetic eurocuck. That mentality is why EU is so weak and doesn't create anything
>>
>>215447237
Megaprojects are good, if it's a new railway or something like on your pic.
A fucking stupid 500 meters glass dick isn't a megaproject.

what about the nile dam?
>>
>>215447498
They always try to cheat the height with spires, oldest trick in the book
>>
>>215447237
Idk what counts as a megaproject
We will build 2 hi speed (320 kmph) railways here, does it count?
>>
>>215447828
How long is it? If it's being build at once and goes like all across the country. I guess it counts.
>>
>>215447237
Megaprojects are just Thirdie cope
>>
>>215447295
>>215447306
Those. At least damns for hydroelectric power serve a purpose. Skyscrapers at best are just office spaces and at worst remain empty.
Another "good" one are those artificial islands of the coast of Dubai. At best they would have been vacation homes and hotels for rich fucks - and the reality is that they get eroded away by the sea and most are undeveloped. They also look like shit.
>>
>>215447237
china just opened world's tallest bridge you dumbfuck
>>
>>215449568
Such a nice bridge. Wish I could kms from there

I usually look at hemnet and the karlatornet apartments always top the list, but they're mogged to death by 1910 stockholm apartments that cost a third of the price. Karlatornet is also situated in nowhere, like it's on the outskirts of the relatively small city of gothenburg but also the immediate surroundings are basically totally empty. They're going to build a "hot new shopping block" or whatever at the foot but that will be fuckugly gay fake chain restaurants like joe and the juice. Why the fuck make a new york skyscraper in a provincial city where there isn't even the veneer of being in a cosmopolitan capital of the world? These people are mentally ill.
>>
>>215447628
I genuinely hope egypt bombs ethiopia if they try and dam the nile
>>
>megaprojects
That's communism
>>
>>215447237
Tall skyscrapers are pure, undiluted thirdie dickmeasuring contests that draw attention from their smelly slums and favelas in their shadows.
Though China is now building the Medog hydropower dam which is a very ambitious project to say the least. That one will supply large undeveloped parts of the country with more power along with causing seethe in jeets and bengalis.
>>
>>215450611
Prewar american skyscrapers were honestly kino and a cultural contribution to palace arcitecture
>>
>>215447237
I think only arab countries are doing that stuff.
Eg Egypt's new city that comes with each president and Saudi Line

The 2018 image is just some shitty google map satellite image stitching/warping but /pol/tards were so butthurt at china they were willing to believe it was real to the point they paid like 10k to take an independent satellite image of the area which immediately proved them wrong
>>
>>215447403
at least the cn tower is iconic
>>
>>215452536
Those weird bents are a caused because not many photos were taken, the photos were taken at a big altitude from the surface so there's not much detail and the damm has important height differences between its lowest and highest point, so the Orthomosaic algorithm they used gets overwhelmed.
This issue can also be seen in the IguazĂș Damm
