If I ever break up with my current gf (which I hope not but 万一) I would probably get an Uyghur gf to get fluent in that as well because realistically there's no way I'm doing it if I'm not living in Xinjiang or talking in Uyghur every day.

If I have a pdf of a dictionary, what is the best way to turn it into an anki deck?
>>
>>215500182
>Spanish via Duolingo
I have started reading beginners stories, and can more or less follow the story without much trouble. Watching Univision I can sometimes understand the gist of the news. The daytime dramas are easier to follow. The comedies and variety shows are incomprehensible.
I'm still too nervous to try Spanish IRL. Need to take a community college course or something to get actual speaking practice.
>>
>>215510018
You use an AI prompt to turn it into a table or directly into an excel file, then you tell the AI to scramble the rows randomly, then you watch a video on youtube where they explain how to turn an excel file/txt file with a table into an anki deck which is something anki can do.
>>
Duolingo stories were unironically great beginner immersion material. I binged them all in Spanish. Unfortunately you can't do that anymore.

I don't get why other countries can't make goverment/tax-funded resources like dw.de. That site has news, videos, audios, stories, etc. complete with exercises, vocabulary list, and accurate subtitles.

I naively expected all developed countries would have something similar. Is tax revenue from language schools that significant? And it's not like they closed all language schools in Germany because dw.de exists.

I need to level up a foreign language and get B2 certificate as fast as possible.
I know:
>Polish (N)
>English (C1+ IELTS confirmed)
>Esperanto (~B1, would be the easiest one but there are no universally recognized official certificates, familiarized myself with a bunch of Romance word roots there)
>Russian (~A1, 3 years in high school)
>Japanese (~A1, self-study)

Honourable mentions:
>Dutch (was dealing with it at work and find it easy to read as it's a mix of English an German, can understand written text pretty well)
>German (3 years in middle school, but no output since 10 years or so)
>Ukrainian (it's like Polish but funnier and I know a couple of words)

Which language should be the easiest and the fastest one to focus on having my language background in mind? Any of the mentioned ones or maybe another one (Italian, Castilian, Czech, Romanian, Serbo-Croatian?)

Dabbling a bit to at least know the Cyrillic and Arabic scripts is not that bad I think.
Also the more languages you know some stuff about the more conversation topics can you have with people of different backgrounds.
Autistically focusing on only one language is only sensible when you've already decided you want to work there or your gf speaks that language
>>
>>215510231
I have been making decks from .csv files already so I understand how to do all of that. But I have never used AI, so what ai would be needed and is it paid? Also would an ai fuck up stuff that is not the latin alphabet, like polytonic greek accent combinations? And would it be able to separate nominal forms, the genitive, and the article, for example?

>>215510018
I don't know the best way to do it - but I would assume you would use a OCR python script to pull the shit, then sort it with more scripts into a csv/tsv to then put it into anki.
This will most likely work - but depending on the language and quality of the source, the OCR may shit the bed.

What would be considered legitimate speaking practice? I am now realizing that language learning has many different facets. I am good at reading and understanding my target lang but I have issues consistently speaking. I imagine my "speaking stat" for my target language is just lower than my reading and listening stat so to speak. What would constitute as great practice for speaking? Just trying to converse with friends etc? or is there more to it?

I was slacking off a bit because I was looking for the best method on my own. I want to learn basic vocabulary as quickly as possible, mainly nouns and adjectives, so that I can understand a little more than the content for total beginners, which either bores me or is surprisingly difficult, like I understand most of it from the context, but after 2 seconds I forget for example what a washing machine is in German. So I'm gonna grind with some premade anki deck. I rejected that refold one already, so maybe I'll focus on DW Nicos Weg or that one from the Goethe Institute. From Monday, I'm going back to learning with Pimsleur

Just use chatgpt and use the following prompt. If you are using the free version just split your dictionary pdf into 10-20 page portions:

I have a PDF file containing dictionary entries. Each entry typically has a word, part of speech, definition, and sometimes example sentences. I want you to extract all entries and convert them into a CSV format with the following columns:

Word

Part of Speech

Definition

Example (if available)

Instructions:

Ignore page numbers, headers, and footers.

If an entry does not have an example, leave the Example column blank.

Make sure each entry is on a single row in the CSV.

Preserve special characters and accents in words.

Output should be pure CSV text, ready to save as a .csv file. Example format:

Word,Part of Speech,Definition,Example
apple, noun,A fruit that grows on trees,"I ate an apple for breakfast."
run, verb,To move swiftly on foot,"He runs every morning."

If the PDF contains extra formatting or multiple definitions per word, separate definitions with a semicolon ;.

The calm before the storm

I will have around 500 flashcards to review in about 5 days according to this SRS system. I reviewed them all perfectly at the start so it will be interesting to see a percentage of what I forgot in a few days. Today's unit had no actual Chinese content but just outlined advice for language learning best practices. I can finally start adding actual characters to the flashcard pile now.

instead of Danish and Swedish learn Bökmal. It's is slightly easier grammatically, its spelling is more regular than Danish and phonologically you will struggle less. Norwegians understand Swedish and Danish better than other combos, which means with Norwegian you more or less get access to all 3.

Do you mean dating a girl of your TL? If you can speak in english together it doesn't matter much but shows you're somewhat intelligent and gives a topic of conversation so not useless.
From my own experience with japanese yeah going there fluent gave me more opportunities but I have a white gf so didn't care.
Also once I was reading a japanese book in a train in Switzerland and the black girl next to me nearly jumped on my cock.

A friend went in tokyo last year and spoke with a random girl in broken english and now she lives here and they're married so being white and tall will always be better than be native level in 20 languages. They're still talking the same bad english together.

tl:dr speaking other languages shows you're smart so you get a few points no matter what

I traveled to China recently and that trip completely broke me.
Two years of learning Chinese and I couldn't 听懂 for shit, niggers were speaking ultra fast and I couldn't get anything but the most basic 好吃吗 tier shit.

Should I just give up? Am i retarded?

one of the things that makes Greek weirdly easier than you'd think, stress accents are always written for some reason. in Russian I guess they only use them for children and learners

You didn't try to watch any movies or news before going? If you inputted daily, you wouldn't get surprised like that, you'd already know your level sucks ASS before you booked the trip.

I'm watching shitty Netflix cdramas and Link Click but real life was way harder.

Well it was a trip with my Chinese girlfriend so yeah.

Well, you can't expect to adapt immediately from classroom learning to the real world. It took me a week or two to get used to speaking and hearing Chinese 24/7 but after that I was fine. You probably just needed a bit more time.

Forget everything I just said you have a Chinese girlfriend (who you are talking to every day in Chinese, I hope) and you still couldn't cope? It's joever

Well you see she lives here in Spain so we speak in Spanish always for her to practice. I like to call her 小母狗 when fucking her though.

learning spanish is annoying because so many study materials and comprehensive input resources are tailored to americans, and by the nature of that it's gigaslop. i like spain a lot and also latin america, but mentally i go full trump giga hitler 1488 just so that there is less of a demand for spanish learning resources made for americans, clogging up my search results with trash

Next time you can call her 嫂子 or 御姐
My gf hates that though, lol

Well thanks but I don't have much need to improve my bed talk, just my listening.
