How do you anons go about finding literature in your TL that is compelling without being tedious? Just random book lists or something? I used to visit Kakuyomu for web novels in Japanese, but I feel like I need content that lulls me in with its world and character development instead of random cliché webnovels. Sites like Novelupdates aren't the best for this in my experience either. I remember an anon saying to visit Amazon pages or something, but that's the most tedious by far for me (even before international payments).

In Japanese, you can write vertically. But it also has sokuon (a smaller character). What do they look like when written vertically by hand? Are they often confused with regular characters? Are they written slightly to the one or another side?

To be honest, I just find books in English that I like and then read the translation in my TLs. Finished "No longer human" in German, now I'm reading "Neuromancer" and some novel based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe called "No coincidence". In Spanish I'm reading "The Alloy of Law" by Sanderson. Most of the movies and tv shows I watch in TL are dubs too.

If you really want books written in TL, you can look at the /lit/ wiki:

This is what I hate the most about ALGooners
They don't care about the culture or literature of their TL, they just want to input with slop
Hence the Peppa pig

Thank you, I suppose a list like this could work better for me. I'll pick one or two.

They have slants.
>ツ and ソ
>シ and ン
Notice the angle. It becomes clearly identifiable when you notice that, and if you lack visual acuity that badly, context can carry you anyway. It'd obvious you'd refer to a western fantasy potion as a ポーション (po-shon) for instance, not read as some incorrect " po-tsoso". Lmao.

>someone learns thousands of words with Anki
>this obviously helps them develop their vocabulary immensely
>years later
>"actually Anki is dumb and not that useful and I wish I never did it, just read more and immerse bro"
Many such cases, there are so many youtube videos of this exact thing. How can you take anyone seriously that says this.

learning a romance language feels so weird. i read native texts and understand the gist of almost every sentence most of the time. i think it's because of english knowledge, but wikipedia articles for example pose close to no real difficulty, since everything written in that particular way mostly uses the same words as english. feels a bit schizophrenic to understand this without prior knowledge.
but it's really the smaller everyday words that are completely alien to me, although they are quite easy to remember. after russian, this is a very fun experience and it feels like making progress really, really quickly for a change
>>
>finally good enough at my language that I understand enough of what I hear that I can just listen to native audio and pick up new words and structures steadily
