Why do Turks love pretending that they're middle eastern and denying their Mongolian ancestry?

This guy looks like an older paler version of my cousin

A lot of them are unironically Turkified Anatolians

The paradox in Turkey, most Asian ancestry is found in the West around Mugla. OG Turkics were nomads
My country's largest immigrant demographic is Turkish, yet today I can't pinpoint a specific Turkish phenotype beyond dark hair / eye color
and you can't even be 100p sure, some Turks are Balkan and Kavkaz ancestry with light eyecolors
>>
Some Turks get really into it and insist they are 100% stepped ancestry nomads and larp as mongols.

What the hell are you talking about? Every single one I've met hates being called "middle easterner" (at best they tolerate being called "near easterner") and claim to be European + Central Asian.
