How do you feel about your country's capital city? Would you prefer it to be a different city?

Mine is the ugliest in the world, probably.

Madrid is a shithole outside 3-4 parts. Not a place to raise a family.
>>
>>215887493
I have some books on it, no I didn't read them, and I've been there too but I didn't really care for it

Sort of a meh feeling about it
>>
>>215887493
almost every capita (90%) is a shithole

Get on our level buddy

Lived in Stockholm for six years (picrel, that area) and honestly, it's a garbage tier city.
Too small to have the benefits of an actual global capital yet to large to be comfy city level sized.
It's overpriced, it's packed full of snobby "rich" folks and everyone there acts like it's the center of the universe.
>>
If Melbourne and Sydney weren't so petty and stupid, Canberra wouldn't have needed to be built.
>>
>>215887493
We probably have the most irrelevant capital in the world. People only think about it when criticizing politicians because that's where a lot of them live. It's a boring place.
Quality of life wise it's technically at the top of every metric in the country, but despite that no one wants to move there.
>>
dick and balls lol
>>
>>215887493
Our capital(Manila) is literally a hive world from 40k inhabited by genestealers that eat garbage
>>
>>215887918
Unfortunately it probably would have ended up in Melbourne though, as if they weren't self-important enough.

How did Brazilians of all people invent a city so soulless? It doesn't make any sense. Not from your people.
>>
>>215887493
Tbh ours is kinda cool. Good urban planning by our standards. And Alexandria, a suburb town is very beautiful

Yeah, I don't know how we managed that either. The average brazilian doesn't like it either. On paper, it's often cited as the best city in the country, and to a certain extent that's true, but in practice it's not that great:

1. High Cost of Living. Not as bad as the city where I live (São Paulo), but higher enough to discourage a lot of people.
2. Job Market Concentration. The city's economy is heavily dominated by federal government jobs. The high paying positions that contribute to its high HDI are generally only accessible through a competitive public examination (concurso público) or via political appointment.
3. The city design is awful. It's a very car centric city and at times feel like an american city. The public transport is not great, even when compared to other brazilian cities.
4. Built in the middle of nowhere. The city was built in the middle of the Cerrado (brazilian savannah), so everything is very far away. That means no beaches, and the average brazilian does love their beaches. Brasília does have some nearby lakes where people can jet ski and whatnot, but it's not the same thing.
5. Extremely dry climate. Very low air humidity all year round. Another deal breaker as the average brazilian is really used to a humid climate.
6. Boring, very boring. They do try to spice things up with random festivals here and there, but overall it's a very soulless city.

I know a lot of people who live in Brasília, and they do enjoy their life there, it's just very different from what the average brazilian is used to.

That would be Amsterdam.

I always found it funny how everyone is always seething at their capitals while we brazilian are like "meh" and very indifferent to its existence
It could be worse I guess
>>
>>215887493
Never been that far south, never will be. No idea what Stockholm is like except all the people complaining about it.

If you have to have politicians, it's best to stick them somewhere shit so normal people don't have to deal with them.

When you say the word "Brasília" to any brazilian, the first thing that comes to their mind is politicians. We often don't think of it as a city, but more like a place where politicians live, even though Brasília is the third most populous city in the country with almost 3 million inhabitants. I always found it fascinating how it managed to remain so irrelevant as a city for so long. No news is good news, I guess.

>How do you feel about your country's capital city?

It has a certain vibe
>>
>>215887493
>How do you feel about your country's capital city?
It's an embarassment.
Everybody here talks about how le cool it is but everybody's frame of reference for it are the mall and Georgetown prominently featured in every other movie and tv show, which are tiny areas compared to the rest of the city; which is such a rotten, forgotten, and dilapidated shithole it's not unlike a Eastern European capital from the 1990s albeit with a massive and particularly violent Black majority. Trump
is doing his best to clean it up but the results have been mixed to say the very least given they don't address the fundamental problems of D.C and it will likely only be a temporary blip or a bandaid on a bulletwound like Operation Sentinelle type things are in Europe.
If you want to see what a shithole D.C is actually like you should watch The Americans or listen to Bad Brains lmao.
>Would you prefer it to be a different city?
I think D.C needs to be made a proper state and incorporate all the areas of the metro in Virginia and Maryland into it like Ile De France or Madrid so it can stand a chance at being competently governed and organized, while Delmarva is made a state and West Virginia is reunited with Virginia. That whole area is such a clusterfuck due to the way D.C is now and restructuring it would do wonders for everyone in all those areas.
>Mine is the ugliest in the world
The Balkans, former USSR and Africa exist, you're fine. I actually like those 60s cities like Brasilia and Canberra a lot aeshtetically, they're just unintentionally shitty places to live as a result lol.
>>
>>215887493
>How do you feel about your country's capital city?
It's a shithole in the middle of nowhere with no cultural, economic or political influence.
>Would you prefer it to be a different city?
No. Berlin being such a shithole makes it the perfect capital because it is unable to dominate the rest of the country in any way. It also is neutral ground for all the diffrent regions and factions that actually do matter.
>>
>>215887493

I don't really understand "My capital city is the shithole" meme. At least in my country. The worst district of Tokyo is not even the worst part of our country. I always feel cringe when foreigners who never been to Japan (or only visited here for tourism) talk shit about Tokyo.
>>
>>215887493
It's fine. We have no other city that would make sense as a capital.
I prefer smaller cities though I think 1mil+ is too many people and too expensive.

>"My capital city is the shithole" meme
Western problems.
Capitals and giant cities tend to reflect the contradictions of the postwar West most glaringly be they in Europe or the Americas.
>The worst district of Tokyo is not even the worst part of our country
Yeah isn't it a part of Osaka that's near-universally considered to be the biggest urban shithole in Japan?
>I always feel cringe when foreigners who never been to Japan (or only visited here for tourism) talk shit about Tokyo.
Foreigners talk shit about Tokyo? I'd argue it's the most beloved/respected major city in the world amongst normalfags.
>>
>>215887493
The city itself is fine.
The people are extremely insecure and snobbish. Even mention a single negative point about Stockholm and they instantly start throwing around their usual "you're a hick" or "lol no jobs where you live" insults. They are unbearable to be around.
>>
>>215892372
>Foreigners talk shit about Tokyo?
Well, in our Japanese thread, there was an American immigrant who settled in Kyushu always talked shit about Tokyo for no reason.

What about the people who live there, what are they like?
>>
>>215892704
They kinda reflect the city in the sense that they're bland too. Unlike other cities and regions, they don't have an apparent culture, at least in the eyes of the rest of the country. Their accent is very generic, nothing really stands out. They don't have a good or bad reputation. I mean, they exist...? And that's it. Brasilienses don't often come up in conversations.
People here often seethe about São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but Brasília is just kinda there in the background watching the apes fling shit at each other.
>>
>>215892806
>in the background watching the apes fling shit at each other
I know this feeling a bit too well

Isn't Brasilia technically the richest and nicest part of Brazil
>>
>>215887493
i live in the old capital which i prefer cause it's a smaller town and more cozy, but of course the current capital is much better in terms of job opportunity and things to do.
>>
>>215894117
Like I said here >>215889470 , yes, on paper it's pretty good, high HDI, good paying jobs, safe (compared to the rest of the country), but it also has a few drawbacks that I highlighted there.
