Very few people have a solid understanding of Genesis. I would recommend the Oxford Annotated NRSV Study Bible for a good breakdown of Genesis. I'm sure there are books on the subject too but I don't know of any. A few important things to understand are that different ancient/biblical genres exist, and that Genesis consists of several different genres of ancient literature . Another is that Genesis is a fusion of different narratives that have been collated to sit together; that's why you often see things like genealogies repeated but differently. There's a priestly narrative and a few other different sources too. Plus there's just a lot of esoteric and just plain forgotten knowledge in it. For example, the years teh different patriarchs live to must mean smth that has long been forgotten. Many such cases. And Genesis ch. 1 is a diff narrative completely separated from the rest of Genesis 2 & 3.I am very high right now by the way xD
