The original "Thousand tales" was a 5th century Persian collection of folktales, fables, and myths sourced from India, Iran and Arabia. It all got sterilized into Islamic versions of the stories after the Arab conquest of Persia. You can look up the English translations of the Arab versions of 1001 Arabian nights from the 8th or 9th century if you want you won't find Aladdin in there.
