Saudi Arabia is developing faster than china but I don’t see anyone talking about it. Even Their major cities look unrecognisable from just 5 years ago and they have a high speed railway system now.

Why is no one giving them credit?

The oil will dry up and become superseded by renewables. The chinese spirit will not dry up.

"We'll fight climate change by planting 10 billion trees! In the middle of the desert which is going to be extremely costly, inefficient, and will require metrics tons of equipment, watering systems, fertilizer, and imported water and all the carbon emissions it brings!!!"

>desalination
Do you know how inefficient that is? How much energy itself it is required to even produce enough water to water a tree throughout its life?
>aquifer
A shitload of underground water, that takes to replenish one? it takes decades or centuries to replenish one, it would be the most retarded project to piss away all of that water for a few years of having a forest in the middle of the fucking dry desert.

Energy is cheap because they have so much oil. They've got entire settlements in the desert that run on oil generators to keep the AC running. Very curious what will happen to them when oil runs out
>>
>>215950100
Maybe they should focus on genocide that is happening in their northern side instead of doing things to please the west.
>>
Xina is developing thanks to their intellectual potential, hard work and confucian mentality (based)
Saudi Arabia is developing thanks to oil deposits given to them by Allah (cringe)

This.

The oil wells will run dry eventually, that's why they are exploring other revenue generating sectors.
>>
>>215950364
This. They desperately seek an oil exit scenario. Its why they buy stuff like EA or the world cup. They throw money at the wall wanting something to stick

Sure but is this real long term ecosystem development or does it come with the problems that plague most monoculture mass plantation efforts? Where does the water come from? Is it all trucked in?
>>
>>215950126
They own EA now
>>
>>215950100
They're just using oil money to spam developments and mega projects here and there with no real target or long-term vision or plan. Mercenary consultants whisper into the ears of hubristic moguls about how building a giant glass mirror in the middle of the desert is such a great idea and how local tribes disrupting megaprojects can just get wiped out without any real PR shitstorm coming out of it. UAE has a much more effective leadership imo and that's why firstie expats are dying to come to Dubai but still view KSA as chudcentral despite all the efforts to clean up its image.

It's a giant sand pit with a few shiny cities propped up entirely by oil money that will dry up before the end of the century. Absolutely does not compare to a nation with 3000 years of contiguous history, 1 billion population and an economy supported by the hard work and intellectualism that builds literally everything in the modern world.

Also I would much rather go to Shanghai, Chongqing, Beijing, Chengdu or basically any big Chinese city than anywhere in Saudi Arabia. I prefer places that have history and culture rather than places that were literally just sand inhabited by barbarians until evolved people showed them how to drill for oil.
>>
>>215950100
You should have given them credit 10 years a go.
It's pretry obvious as of now, 2025 that KSA is utterly fucked.
They are burning through their cash reserves fast. Even had to scale down massive projects, such as The Line
>>
>>215959778
I think peak oil is a myth.
>>
>>215950100
Planting trees isn't some instant solution dumbass. More so when many areas people try to "green" up weren't exactly dense forests.
>>
>>215959778
I agree with you on the oil dependency but you guy had the north sea oil and basically let petrol companies extract the vast majority of profits away in tax shelters and tax evasion while the British population barely got much out of it.
