I studied French to read French literature but I wasn't passionate about French literature, the only novel I had read up to that point was L'Étranger I studied Old Norse to read Old Norse literature and I had read a fair bit and I am passionate about itNow I'm studying Japanese to read Japanese literature because I like Mishima and enjoy Akutagawa, Ihara Saikaku, Kenko and ChikamatsuI can't see any other reason to learn a language besides being an immigrant
