Goa is nice. That's where all the hippy expats go so you can get some upscale treatment there. Stay the fuck out of Mumbai. Dehli is a piece of shit at first and will give you a bad impression but don't let that deter you. UP and Bihar are shitholes. Northeast India like Nagaland and Manipur are actually really nice especially if you can make local friends they'll give you nice drinks and all the dog you can eat. If you're taking any trains try to figure out beforehand if they're real trains or death cars where people will be literally pissing into your backpack from ontop of the train. Always keep your valuables on your person in a pocket that can't be easily grabbed.

I've personally never been but I would probably avoid it unless you have close friends with local knowledge who you trust to not fuck you over. Cops and the army are crooks and thieves. Don't trust them. They're just as likely to stop you and steal your shit as any petty thief.

Thank you, do you have any advice as where I should stop at?

pajeet detected. no one would want to backpack through india. why would you want to backpack through a country full of dogshit, garbage and feces. everyone who goes there hates the fuck out of it and they cut the trip short halfway through. makes literally zero sense to go there. if you want to be in touch with nature, go anywhere that isn't literally a polluted landfill

go to any country but india if you want to hike. europe, asia, SEA, Canada, South America, etc

I spent most of my time in India in the himalayan region. If you're looking for scenery similar to Kashmir then just go to Ladakh. Beautiful place. Sikkim is very interesting. If you go to Jaigong you can see the Bhutanese border. That's a cool town just watch out for bastards in uniform trying to fuck you over. Really anywhere in the Himalayan area is beautiful, cheap, and has plenty of great hikes and temples if you're into that. Just be ready to rough it. If you want more nightlife, tattoo parlors, and the luxuries of modern life then I'd recommend Goa.

Yes but those countries arent dangerous or would make a good story I guess,

Thank you for the advice

you can't do backpacking in india. you have to pay and use taxis and airplanes and stay in nicer hostels or hotels. basically you have to pay to get bare minimum standards. you can't get good deals in this country.
you can start from south and go to north or start from south and go up
if you start from south I guess you start at state of kerela and then you go up through Goa, Mumbai, Jaipur, Delhi and end it in some North Indian hill station like rishikesh

what kind of story would wading through garbage for 7 days be anyway? most stories i ever hear about india is how disgusting it is, how much garbage there is, how many jeets there are, how bad the diarrhea they had in india was, and how they cut their two week trip short after two days.

other countries have loads of great hiking spots with history, cool stories, and great scenery. like everest, mt fuji, the northern lights, or that place from avatar with the see through glass bridge.

It's definitely possible, I've known people who have done it and I've done it myself through specific parts, mostly northeast. You are right that you'll need to pay for some kind of transit through some areas, especially if you want to avoid the really shitty cities.

>everest
Nepal is basically the same as like 90% of India and Everest specifically is known for being an absolute shithole covered in trash.
