Only certain animals can be domesticated and it depends on their genes and other factors such as life span and life cycle. Basically, only herding/social animals that have a short-ish life cycle can be domesticated because you need to breed the good traits in and bad traits out in their offspring. If they take too long to mature and have babies, then it would take too long to create a docile breed. Cats are unique in that they themselves chose to domesticate with humans.
