I was convinced gnomes/faeries/elves were real when I was a kid and would look for them outside in our backyard. I'd find strange looking pebbles and twigs on the ground and convince myself that they were some sort of gnome tool or sculpture. The strange thing was that I don't remember consuming any sort of media that would have introduced me to the concept of these creatures until I was much older. It's as if I knew about them before I should have known about them.
