Why is Indochina called Indo-China ? Does it means that Indochineses are half Chineses and half Indians ?
>>216077557It was historically influenced by both India and China. Buddhism originated in India for example. Every SEA state was a Chinese tributary at some point. And so on.
>>216077557do you look like that?
>>216077557yes, indian males with chinese females
>>216077557Because Southeast Asia has had cultural and religious intluences from both India and China.
>>216077581Historically it was part of Siam and colonists washed it out the same way they did to Mayans or Aztecs. You can find similar stone architecture in Thailand/Vietnam as you would in South America. There's also too many cultural dead ends in Asia which drives scholars insane, for instance the Ryukyu Islands had these stone temples that the locals had no idea who built them and the only thing that scholars did was make note of it and leave a description. Southeast Asia was more similar to Tibet or Nepal than China or India, westerners (particularly missionaries) rather preferred India and China because they weren't as culturally entrenched as SEA was.
>>216077837>Historically it was part of SiamNot at all.
>>216077630>Resentment of ethnic Chinese economic aptitude grew in the 1950s as Native Indonesian merchants felt they could not remain competitive
>>216077884>1950s>less than 10 years after freed from colonial-mandated slave class, competing against the textbook middleman for centuriesAin't you used to have Jews too there
>>216077949unlike Jews, Chinese actually improved the countries they lived in.
