It's crazy how much being even a little distracted or sleep deprived affects my Anki reps. It's a miracle humans can consistently learn anything resembling language at all.

>>216164466>ankijust fucking read
It seems like no matter what vocab / conjugations I learn, I forget after 1 day. Maybe its because I havent moved on from the Duolingo / language apps phase. But Im not sure how to move on from that stage. Do I just grind Anki?I feel like the apps arent helping me much because I can just look at how long a word is, or just one letter I know is in the word, and I can I just choose that. I cant really spell this shit out myself. Duolingo word banks arent helpful. I should be forced to type out the answers
>>216164837i read everyday, those two things are not even the same category, they achieve separate things
>>216165025I love using memorization to learn. Things like Anki (or Quizlet, kek. I actually pay for their "Learn" tool when I need to cram and memorize test banks for exams I've procrastinated studying for) will definitely help with that, and there's a function to type your answers as well. I think studying before bed is also really helpful and feels like it makes it all stick.
why had it never occured to me that you can just create a new profile on youtube on the same account while your location is set to TL's country so you can tailor your recommendations to just that language

>>216165575Anki is the most time-efficient method of study, that barely takes any time. In fact you will save time by using it because it's so much more of an efficient way to learn. There is no opportunity cost to using anki, only one for not using it.
>>216166185ive got 600 hours in anki in my tl, have not found it to be especially time-efficient. ive found input with word-lookup to work much betterwords are very context-sensitive and acquisition of words is very emotion/sensation driven, so meaning is usually more apparent from interesting material than it is from a flash card and the word usually sticks better when its encountered via something youre interested in
esperanto would have taken off if it had a finno-ugric style case system. as it is, it's too similar to the romance languages.
>>216166375>word-lookupNot that anon, but tell me more of your method. Im trying to use Anki but Im having that issue. I need some emotional connection. Should I just start with any song / show / book and just translate literally everything?

>>216167094>language reactor & mate translate add-ons installed for word lookupHm okay. I guess step one is looking into these. Thanks
>>216166483That first guy is making it sound like you can only use Anki with premade decks, but its best to combine Anki + input. I learned a lot of vocab and grammar in my TL by listening to a song over and over, looking up the vocab and grammar, then making them into Anki cards with the full sentence on the back to remind me of the context.
>>216167266i never did it but sentence mining from content you are watching seems like a good system

>>216167417Yea. The way I did it is to start with a premade deck of the most common words and then make my own from my input material. This is what the back of many of my sentence-mined cards look like for JP, and the front just has the word, and I plan to do it with French next. It should work for any language.

>>216188456nono i put it badly. of course those words exist in all those languages, but their meanings are more similar to those of the same words in russian, for example. ostatni i don't think exists in russian, but in ukrainian, as ocтaннiй (picrel) and means the same. posledni -> пocлeдний, means the samenižší -> низший / нижe, these ones are more like in polish, also means lower spodni -> cпiднiй in ukrainian, also means lower (or worse) kalhoty i think is a foreign word what i mean is just that the meanings remind me of east slavic words more, polish tends to use them differently. i noticed this a while back already, everytime i think i understand something in polish, it turns out one or two words mean something either slightly or completely different than in russian or ukrainian

What happens when you get fluent is that once you reach that goal you lose all sense of purpose in realizing that you are at the end of your journey. You start looking back at those magical moments encountering new words and grammatical concepts, and the hours you spent gooning to lily. Life to you now as you are fluent in your TL is that you feel the language is no longer that enchanted foreign land you were so attracted to, and the attention from the native speakers slowly dwindles and you just become another face in the crowd. You start wondering if it was ever all worth it or if you have any value left to give. The main thing putting me off from German and doing French first isn't even the grammar. I've dabbled a little in both languages and was starting to understand the dative case. The main thing is that some German words look so foreign and different from the English words, unlike French. Even the French words that are different from English still feel somewhat familiar compared to German
