People like using whatever measurement system they are familiar with. There's nothing the government can do to make people use cm rather than feet/inches for height. Government can change road signs I guess but that would be pointless. We already use metric for many official things, for example nutritional labeling, and both metric and imperial (or US customary for the autist getting mad about that) are taught in school alongside each other, we learn what a centimeter is in school at the same time that we learn inches. Construction industry would also be expensive to switch. Packaging could be either metric or imperial, I went through my pantry and its almost even on the number of containers that are a round number in metric and a round number in imperial.
