Yeah nah, I'm sorry I'm not calling it that, it sounds silly. I will keep saying Holanda.

>>216232536
it's not offensive, it's simply a vague term because it's merely one province of the country (the best one tho)

The name of the country in portuguese is a fucking mess.
The proper name for Nederland in portuguese should be Neerlândia, which is a formal way of addressing the Netherlands used often in historic contexts, but very rarely used nowadays.

But for whatever reason, someone decided that Países Baixos should be the proper, official, modern way of calling the Netherlands in portuguese. It sounds really out of place, especially when considering that the proper term for dutch in portuguese is neerlandês. What the fuck?

This is why everyone just uses Holanda/Holandês, even in formal contexts, despite being technically wrong.

What do you think nederlands means?
>>
>>216232536
Huh, we insist on calling it Holland.
>>
>>216234026
Yes, everyone knows it's a literal translation, you don't even need to speak portuguese to realize that, but the point still stands, not everything should be literally translate, specially when it sounds really bad.

>By the 20th century, even the Dutch government began calling their country Holland to appeal to tourists and foreign investors. The nation’s official tourism site is Holland.com. However, the Dutch government has decided to make a change.
>Because tourists primarily visit cities in the region of Holland, largely ignoring the other 10 provinces, the government has decided to work to attract focus on the country as a whole.
>The Dutch government is transitioning to using “The Netherlands” in all of its official branding. While the international tourism site is currently still called Holland.com (which could change in the near future), it will encourage visitors to consider traveling throughout the nation.
>The country’s logo is changing, as well. Formerly an orange tulip with the name Holland across it, the logo will transform into an orange tulip branded with NL. Orange, which is the color of the Dutch Royal Family, will remain the Netherlands’ official color.
