I should say that most of my family members cannot comprehend why someone would want to go more than 20 miles from the place they live. The lack of ambition in theory should mean they have a greater focus on family. That was true when I was younger but it all started to unravel. Before my grandfather died he was very much present in my brother's kids lives. After he died it devolved into a petty squabble between my brother and my aunt. My aunt already has a house but she thinks she should get my grandfather's house instead of my brother, so she can give her house to her daughter. Last I heard my brother didn't even want to get into it and was considering moving to another state. After many years sober my father started drinking again, was never present in my brother's kids lives. Before he died my grandfather said he couldn't hang around the garage anymore because of his drinking.I don't expect anybody to read any of this. The tl;dr of it is that being born and raised in a small town can leave you with a small mindset.
