How culturally and linguistically distinct are all the different islands?
Some of them have Islamic militant guerrillas, some of them have communist militant guerrillas, and some of them have people still living in hunter-gatherer style tribes, many have developed towns and cities, many have no people at all and are uninhabited; some Filipinos speak Spanish, there are dozens of languages spoken there which are native to the Philippines.It's an interesting place, although I only have surface level knowledge of it.
